Pittsburgh Teacher Dragged From Car, Seriously Beaten By Student's Parents, For Disciplining Student

A Pittsburgh teacher was followed and assaulted by the parents of a student, after taking a cell phone away from her in class on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh, PA - A Pittsburgh Public School teacher was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after being followed and then assaulted by the parents of one of her students.

The violent incident started as the teacher, age 46, was leaving her school, Martin Luther King Accelerated Learning Academy PreK-8.

The teacher was on her way home when the attack occurred, according to CBS Pittsburgh.

Earlier on Wednesday, the teacher, whose name was not released, took a cell phone from a student in her class.

The student was using the cell phone in class, which is not allowed.

The student, who was not identified, told her parents, according to 'sources', and the student's mother told the teacher that they were going to "get even."

The student's parents were waiting on the teacher when she left the school.

The parents, who were not identified, followed the teacher in a black SUV. When she got near the West End Bridge, near the intersection of Route 65, the couple got out of the SUV and approached her.

The teacher rolled down her window, according to TribLive, as the woman threw a brick at her. Both of the parents then pulled the teacher from her vehicle and began to beat her.

The teacher was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital, where she is being treated for "facial injuries and lost teeth." She is listed in stable condition.

It's not known if the parents have been taken into custody.

No further details have been released.

Wow, now that was a real mature way to handle that situation.

I'm guessing it was a precious little "din't du nuffin" whose parents think she should never be corrected or scolded. But would be the first to scream police brutality when they get arrested for this.

docfurby, BoycottNFL, I dunno, this screams of stoopid white trash. Fact that the parents not being identified does lend plausibility to your theory though.

Teacher needs to not only bring charges against the parents but perhaps even, in the best interests of the child, have them investigated by CPS. I would also bring suit against the parents in civil court and retire. The school needs to remove the distraction of cell phones while in the classroom and let the children know that any and all cellphones in class will be taken and only the parents can retrieve them. There is NO NEED for cell phones in the classroom. Those who argue differently clearly have no idea what their children are doing with them in school.

CrazyD, according to the Pittsburgh DOE there are only 18 white students in the school. So there is a very good chance it was non white parents.

And then when this child of theirs ends up in jail, they will know where she learned to feel entitled from. PUT DISCIPLINE BACK IN THE SCHOOLS!!!

Cell phones are the down fall of society and parenting. NO and I mean NO child needs a cell phone. Parents pay 800 dollars and a monthly bill for these kids to play games on cell phones when they should be using it for a tutor. I cant tell you how many parents cant join PTSA or come in for Parent Teacher Conferences but take their kids phone and WOW THEY ARE AT THE SCHOOL IN 10 MINUTES. Shame Shame Shame

I was getting certified as an EMT years back - no cell phones - a women argued with the Paramedic.
"I have kids that need to get a hold of me"
yeah - she's not an emt - she was to be on the job - not on the phone. Too many people have screwed priorities.

I actually bought the Yondr phone management system for my classroom. Kids have to put their phones in a pouch which locks but they can keep the pouch with them. It has cut down on cell phone issues 90%. These parents are irresponsible and it is shocking if they have not been arrested. For the record, I support Black Lives Matter, but as a teacher, I am sick of the lack of support from parents.

Can someone tell me why race is being discussed? Whether black, white,or brown WRONG is WRONG!

We wonder why academic standards are so low in the US. We spend more and more money on education, and still don't get a very good return on our investment. There is a very simple, inexpensive solution.

Race should be irrelevant in these things, BUT, Unfortunately when no race is mentioned, it’s usually black on black. If this had been a white parents beating up a black teacher, it would have been pointed out. Just like white cops beating up a black man. It’s the same old story. It happens all the time in the reverse roll but it’s not media worthy. Sad.

It has recently been proven that Russians are trolling pages like this to try to stir up racial division. The racist comments on here are so far out of left field (especially the first comment about hanging the daughter) that it wouldn't surprise me if that is where these comments are coming from.

WTH is wrong with parents these days. Did they forget about rules, wait I am asking a dumb question of course they have as they dont know how to parent! They call us to come parent their child when they are out if control! I hope the teacher sues them as well as they get criminal charhes of assault, why to be role models!

Race is being talked about for a number of reasons. First, if it were black on black crime, it wouldn't make the news. Secondly, if Blue Lives Matter is posting it, its logical that the parents were black and the teacher was not.
I believe that most people on this thread would be talking about race if it were white parents down south beating up a black teacher.

In Arizona last year there was a case of kids throwing rocks at passing cars. Quite a few accidents happened, several people were seriously injured, a few killed. When the culprits were finally caught, only one went to jail, and it wasn't the ringleader, who was the son of a wealthy family (and he was not a person of color, but neither were most of the other kids, whose families all had to pay fines.) Just saying that race has little to do with bad behavior. If these parents were responsible parents, their sweet darling would have gotten in trouble for disobeying the rules in class, and they would have discussed the issue with the teacher. Instead they acted like criminals, and need to be treated as such.

It really doesn't matter what race anyone involved is, the point is, It's people like this who give parenting a bad name, not to mention why some kids are they way they are. They see what their parents do and think that it's ok.....well it's not

Dlsgrig

Are you kidding me??? This has nothing at all to do with race. Honestly, this is why there is so much racial tension/violence in the world. Anytime there is a situation of ANY kind race is the first thing that people start screaming. Unbelievable.

As a teacher, I very quickly learned that if you took a cellphone, it had to be rushed to the office. The little darling would call mommy and mommy would be on the phone to the principal. Worse, you'd have a parent at the front desk demanding the phone. If I was very fast, I could call home and get my side told. Not that it did a lot of good, the parent seemed to always take the kids side. BTW the administration always rolled over for the parent.

I certainly hope the parents end up in jail for agg. assault, go to jail and do time. What a horrendous example for their kids. The girl needs to go to juvie also. It's time people are held accountable.

TinaM77
TinaM77

I really hope the parents go to jail for a long time. I agree this story has nothing to do with color. It's a teacher doing her job and two crazy idiot thugs being out of control. These schools need to be sending letters and having the parents sign them that no cell phones are allowed in class, any student seen with one will have it taken away until the end of the day and 2nd time could be in school suspension, etc.

EDRN
EDRN

This is just wrong! I agree with above comments! Just let teachers do their job and hold parents accountable for proper raising of their kids. Teachers have enough to do and shouldn't have to discipline the children in their classrooms!!

FAKK2K

Our schools have very strict policies on cellphones. If it’s taken up the child has to wait till the next day or till they come in with their parent and pay 15.00 to get it back. If it’s taken a 2nd time same thing only 30.00 to get back. 3rd time, it’s kept for the remainder of the school year or the parent can come pick it up for a 50.00 fine and student has ISS for 4 days. This is all within a year, not a semester. I really, really hope the teacher presses charges and sues the hell out of them. It was pre-meditated, she was stalked/followed, assaulted and if she had teeth knocked out they were really trying to cause serious injury and she’s probably going to need reconstructive surgery. Put the little shit in juvi, expell her. And by God, pass a law, like some places here where I am, that allows teachers to arm themselves. She should’ve had a gun hidden in her car at least. With the violent kids and also parents, these days, I don’t care if it’s a “gun free zone”, I am an adult, licensed to carry, open carry, but if I were a teacher I would definitely have one hidden and strapped on me. I’m all about saving my life and I’d want to be able to save others if it came down to it.

Having had a daughter who's phone was taken away(she was a senior in high school), and having teachers who are family and friends, these par3nts are way out of line with what they did. They should be arrested charged with first degree assault, with intent to kill. My other question is why does a 4th grader need a cell phone?

educator_51

a) Today's parents need to remember that the school is responsible for the child while he or she is in school. The child does not NEED the phone while taking part in SCHOOL. School is not social/outside contact time it is for learning. All emergency contact should take place through the front office. b) An active cell phone during school session is a distraction. Children should not have their phone on during school time, period, unless the teacher is pro-active about using phones fro certain education-related sites, such as Quizlet. c) Today's parents should remember that having a cell phone is a privilege. d) Today's parents should understand that they and their children have a responsibilty to

Since when did attacking someone over an issue like this become morally correct? What are they defending their child against? Learning how to behave correctly while at school? The parents are the real uneducated people in this scenario. How did we ever get to this generation?

In some schools in ks. we have to leave our phones in lockers or baskets in the rooms. some other schools let you have them with you but you are not to use them unless it is for 911 only. I feel The Parents should go to jail and the kid needs to go to juv. the whole thing is disturbing and uncalled for.
