Over Half Of Baltimore's Mayoral Candidates Have Been Charged With Crimes

Baltimore mayoral candidate Richard Vaughn's criminal history includes felony theft, carjacking, and harassment charges.

Baltimore, MD – Over half of the 32 candidates vying to become Baltimore’s next mayor in April have criminal charges on their records.

The candidates’ startling backgrounds came to light just days before former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh is due to be sentenced in federal court for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and tax evasion, WBFF reported.

The news outlet began digging into the mayoral candidates’ criminal histories to see if any of them had legal matters in the past, and quickly discovered that over half of them had.

Among them is former Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon, who was indicted on 12 state counts in January of 2009, including theft, fraud, and misconduct in office, WBFF reported.

The original indictment was later dismissed, but Dixon was ultimately indicted on two different charges in July of 2009.

She was charged with theft and embezzlement for stealing gift cards that were intended for low-income citizens, and was later convicted on the misdemeanor embezzlement charge, WBFF reported.

As a condition of her sentence, Dixon agreed not to run for office anywhere in Maryland until her four-year probation period expired.

Another mayoral candidate, William Herd, has been charged with malicious destruction of property, breaking and entering, and passing bad checks in the past, WBFF reported.

Clergyman David Anthony Wiggins, a self-described business owner, was charged with false imprisonment, harassment, failure to comply with a peace order, and filing a false application to purchase a firearm.

Zulieka Baysmore was criminally charged for failing to return a rental vehicle.

Felony theft, carjacking, and harassment charges were found in business owner Richard Vaughn’s criminal history, WBFF reported.

Vaughn acknowledged his past crimes during an interview with the news outlet.

“It was just one of those moments in life where I fell,” the mayoral candidate told WBFF. “I felt as if there was no way up and no way to crawl away from it. And, so I did a stupid act. I had to face the penalties and learn from that mistake.”

Other candidates were convicted of less serious offenses, such as Terry McCready, who was found guilty of fishing without a license.

WBFF’s investigation into the candidates’ criminal histories did not include any offenses that were committed outside of Maryland.

Why wouldn't you elect a criminal to run a city full of criminals. You have to pick from the people who live there..

It's Baltimore. You expect better? Good news is that they could reduce costs by running the mayor's office out of the County Lockup. In fact, probably could move most of City Hall there, too.

It's Baltimore. All they did was pick the top 32 people in the city with the least amount of criminal activity on their records to run for mayor. It's a blue state. That's the best they got. That's the best they will ever have.

You need to start with the fact that in the last 33 years, all the mayors have been black.. just saying.

Funny how it all goes back to the "13/60" percent thing or should I say "13/60" rate thing.............it's so confusing. *sarc

Skin color has nothing to do with it, esp in a town that is 60%+ black. It makes sense for all the mayors of the past 33 years to be the same color as the majority. The fact that many of the mayoral candidates have criminal backgrounds just shows that many of the Baltimore residents end up committing crimes before they decide to get into politics. And people wonder why their mayors end up charged with crimes while in office.

Don't make it a racial thing when it isn't.

That's bull. It's the acceptence of corruption. Too many just want to get out and succeed. Why deal with those losers.

So it was a coincidence they were all black?

when the majority of the population is black, then the majority of the nominees will be black, and the majority of the mayors will be black. it's simple numbers.

I understand your premise that this isn’t a black thing, but based on your logic, how did that worthless POS o’bummer get elected?

Excalibr4

I understand it's simple numbers, which is why I brought up the fact that they were all black. Everyone here, including our black trolls, know blacks are far more prone to criminality, which explains the high level of corruption. Occam's razor.

O'Malley is white.

Excalibr4
Excalibr4

You are correct I simply Googled "baltimore white mayor" and clicked on this...

"Who was the last white mayor of Baltimore?"

It dropped this window...

"In his campaign, O'Malley focused on reducing crime and received the endorsement of several key African-American lawmakers and church leaders, as well as that of former mayor of Baltimore and Maryland governor William Donald Schaefer (1921-2011), the city's last Caucasian mayor, who had served 1971-1987."

I just read the last line and ran with it.

None of Obama's administration were ever fired, quit, got indicted, stole from veterans, meals on wheels, kids school programs, committed fraud, committed campaign violations, ran a scam foundation to line their pockets ,ran a scam University, scamming the public by selling scam books like " the art of the deal" scam where even the co author admitting it was all a scam. Licking Putin's boots, cozying up to dictators etc....so don't disparage " obumma"

How very sad is this for the electoral of Maryland! Seems they do not have a choice but to elect "the lesser of two evils." So sorry for them that placed them in this situation...and many must have to have voted delinquents into office.

Baltimore is a dump. I worked there for 6 years and it is a dump with Democrats running all government agencies which is a great example of “good intentions” providing terrible results. They’re all crooks and ignorant fools and don’t have a clue how to do anything except get elected and steal.

micreev1

Dear Excalibr4 and IseeWhereThisIsGoing, you all are aware that former Mayor Martin O'Malley, who served from 99 to 07, is white, right? If you're going to have a discussion, you would be better served to base it in reality.

And the majority are criminals. In a black city with black politicians and residents shooting each other. Black and black crimes are running rampant. I hate to say it but it is what it is .
