On-Duty Police Officer Found Dead Of Suicide In Parking Lot
Hoover, AL – The body of a Hoover Police Department (HPD) officer was found in the agency’s parking lot while he was on-duty on March 13.
Investigators believe that the officer, whose name was not released, committed suicide outside the Hoover Police Operations building on Lorna Road while he was on duty that afternoon, WBRC reported.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were called in to investigate the officer’s death, Hoover Police Lieutenant Keith Czeskleba told The Birmingham News.
Police did not release any other details.
"As a department and a family, we are deeply saddened by the tragic situation that occurred today,'' Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis told The Birmingham News. “This is an incredibly sad and emotional time for everyone and it’s something that our department has never experienced before.”
"We ask for thoughts and prayers for the officer’s family and the entire Hoover Police Department during this extremely difficult time,'' Chief Derzis added.
