Officer Shot In Gunfight With Man Allowed To Escape After Trying To Kill 2 Cops

A Baltimore police officer was shot when officers encountered a suspect who had attempted to kill two police officers.

Baltimore, MD – The man authorities believe tried to kill two Baltimore police officers on Tuesday was fatally shot Wednesday night in an incident that left an officer wounded.

The prior incident began at about 1:16 a.m. on Aug. 27 when a silver car tried to run over a Baltimore police officer who was out of his vehicle conducting a traffic stop in the 2400-block of Reisterstown Road, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Another officer on patrol in the area spotted the suspect vehicle about three minutes later at an intersection in the 1500-block of Pennsylvania Avenue.

Police said that as the officer approached the silver car in his police car, the suspect jumped out of his car and opened fire on the officer with a handgun, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said the officer was able to back away in time to avoid being shot.

A 9mm shell casing was recovered later from the scene, The Baltimore Sun reported.

The driver fled and police pursued him through the city until a Baltimore police major ordered the officer to terminate the pursuit when it reached I-295, a six-lane highway that runs out of the city.

Officers continued searching for the suspect vehicle throughout the day, and at about 11 p.m., they spotted it, WBAL reported.

Chief Harrison said a large number of officers responded to the area, and there were two encounters between officers and the suspect that involved an exchange of gunfire.

Police first encountered the suspect at Fayette and North Caroline Streets and fired at him, The Baltimore Sun reported.

The suspect – later identified by police as 30-year-old Tyrone Domingo Banks – jumped back in his car and drove down Caroline Street with police right behind him.

Chief Harrison said officers opened fire on the suspect again when he stopped a block later, The Baltimore Sun reported.

More than 10 officers were involved in the incident and the chief said it wasn’t known how many had fired their weapons, WBAL reported.

The chief told reporters that it was not yet known whether Banks had fired on officers.

"That subject was in fact armed. There is a gun on the scene that we are recovering," Chief Harrison said.

A Baltimore officer was shot in the lower leg during one of the encounters.

The officer was transported to University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma for treatment, WBAL reported.

The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police said the officer was released early Thursday morning, WBAL reported.

Chief Harrison said the suspect was transported to Johns Hopkins University Hospital where he died.

A female bystander was also injured during the incident, WBAL reported.

Police said she had been transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said they didn’t know if she was wounded by gunfire or shrapnel, WBAL reported.

The officer-involved shooting in under investigation and Chief Harrison said investigators would be reviewing bodycam of the incident.

Another happy ending. I see LEOs as I see Trump. In spite of all the hatred, they persevere and strive to their jobs as best they can. On the other hand, I see far too many black males in deadly confrontations with police. Every time I see a black politician or activist railing against the police, I want to jam the real statistics down their throats.

I'm waiting for the protests in the street for excessive force, how the officers murdered this kindhearted soul, and how the officers should be terminated and charged. All because they failed to de-escalate the situation.

Wait, I thought the democrats said Baltimore was a nice and safe area? Wasn't that the claim when Trump said it was a dump? I mean, it looks like such a safe area.....

Not sure why they called the chase the first day. Chases are dangerous and if it was something minor I could understand, but this guy shot at the police. Maybe they should teach Baltimore officers how to do the PIT maneuver.

I see stories involving a few Hispanics , saw one Asian one time , since whites are ~75% then yes you see Caucasians ......but so many black criminal stories its almost uncanny. Heart goes out to those minority LEOs and citizens who just want to work, raise a family , earn a living ............but the disproportionate numbers of BMs causing criminal issues are almost unbelievable........Almost.

Maybe "gutless" will be a legitimate defense in the civil liability trial against the pinhead that called off the original chase!

And that’s what happens when an administrator makes calls from his safe little office. Good job to the officers, glad their all safe, but it came at the expense of one officer getting injured. It’s not like the chase was for a blinker violation or busted tail light, it was for almost harming an officer. If he will do that he will do that to anyone who gets in his way. Glad this prick is dead, and his family better not try and sue (yeah right, they probably already got a lawyer)..... stay safe brothers and sisters, it’s obvious admin is trying to control things other than the budget, manpower and logistics.

Just step back and let Baltimore implode....it wont take much time.
If I were an officer there I'd have had my resume out to any other city except chicago, LA, etc. A nice town like Mayberry would be a lovely change of pace wouldn't it?

I'd say I shot too...and take the whole Department off for a month.

Sounds like another friendly fire incident, but thankfully probably not an officer fatality.

Good God-man. How many rounds were actually fired? The Police Chief is lucky that only three people were hit. I would bet a dollar to a doughnut, the young lady was struck by friendly (PD) fire. I will also put up another dollar to a doughnut that the office struck in the leg shot by his own service revolver. As for the perp? I'll bet another dollar to a doughnut, that some "gangsta" in the shadows put his ass down. That Police Chief should dress up like Ronald McDonald. He is not running a police department, he is running the 'The Keystone Cops."

"The police acted stupidly"..Remember that moronic statement. Well that was the match that lit the fuse causing what we are seeing NOW. Remember that in 2020, because if we get yet another Liberal. Left wing Marxist like the last one. THIS will only get worse.
