Off-Duty Officer Shoots Armed Robber Who Jumped Into His Car At Drive-Thru

An off-duty Colorado Springs police officer shot an armed robber who jumped into his car and tried to rob him.

Colorado Springs, CO – An off-duty Colorado Springs police officer fatally shot an armed suspect who jumped into his personal vehicle as he was waiting in a Carl’s Jr. drive-thru lane early Thursday morning.

The officer had just gotten off shift when he stopped by the fast-food restaurant at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Feb. 27, KKTV reported.

He was not wearing his uniform and was not in a patrol vehicle at the time, according to The Denver Post.

As the officer was waiting in the drive-thru lane for his order, a stranger jumped into his vehicle and threatened him with a weapon, KOAA reported.

“An off-duty officer was getting food,” Colorado Springs Police Sergeant Jason Newton told KKTV. “They just got off shift, and then a male approached them and said he had a handgun.”

The off-duty officer fired at least one round during the altercation that ensued, fatally wounding his attacker.

The officer was uninjured during the shooting.

Colorado Springs police were investigating a robbery at a nearby Loaf ‘n Jug at approximately the same time and arrived at the fast-food restaurant shortly after the off-duty officer called 911, KKTV reported.

It is unclear whether or not the suspect who jumped into the officer’s car was the same person who robbed the business.

Investigators are also working to determine whether or not the armed suspect is also linked with a robbery that took place earlier in the night approximately one mile away.

"Colorado Springs Police Department is still investigating the original robbery at the gas station,” Sgt. Newton told KKTV. “The shooting will be handed over to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and they will investigate that.”

The off-duty officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, KOAA reported.

Glad the Officer is okay. I guess the thug attempted to carjack the wrong person and he paid the price that cost him everything.

Satisfactory outcome to what could have turned the other way in an instant. Keep those doors locked.

I LOVE fast moving stories with a HAPPY ENDING. Hope the DA and Police chief are NOT democrat though. Or this Officer would be in trouble for DOING HIS JOB.

Anyone old enough to remember the old TV sitcom, "Gomer Pyle USMC?" These types of incidents always bring back one of Private Pyle's happy lines, "Surprise, Surprise!"

• Career dirt bag snuffed & stuffed.
• Unlawful weapon off the street.
• Hardworking, honest, law abiding tax payers saved millions from having to warehouse that useless excuse for flesh.

The off duty officer should be honored and decorated a hero.

Now we will have to see his Mom and some guy claiming to be his father saying we was a good boy just trying to get some money for school.
