NYPD Raids Sleeping Truck Drivers, Tows Trucks Needed To Haul Supplies

Sandy Malone

NYPD 66th Precinct commander bragged on Twitter about ticketing and towing long-haul truckers trying to sleep.

Brooklyn, NY – New York Police Department (NYPD) officers conducted a raid Monday morning on a group of long-haul truckers who were sleeping in their cabs on a residential street in the 66th Precinct.

NYPD Deputy Inspector James King, the commanding officer of the 66th Precinct, tweeted about the operation right after it happened, but has since deleted the post in which he bragged about having illegally parked tractor trailers towed in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic emergency.

The tweet was captured by retired NYPD Detective David Chianese and published on his Advocacy for LEOs blog on Tuesday.

“Our traffic safety officer was out on Bay pkwy towing these illegally parked trailers,” the NYPD 66th Precinct tweeted on Monday morning. “Please remember commercial vehicles cannot be parked on residential blocks.”

The incident occurred just before dawn on March 23 when a number of over-the-road truck drivers were sleeping in the cabs of their trucks on a mixed use street in Brooklyn, according to the Advocacy for LEOs blog.

Officers from the 66th Precinct and the NYPD Traffic Enforcement Division descended on the block to wake up the out-of-state truck drivers, most of whom were catching a nap while they waited for their trailers to be reloaded for another trip, Advocacy for LEOs reported.

On Monday, instead of waking up and returning to pick up their goods to haul, the truckers were forced to deal with the impound lot to retrieve the trucks, leaving much needed supplies on pallets inside parked trailers.

NYPD sources told Blue Lives Matter that what happened in the 66th Precinct was “utterly disgusting” and mirrored the rest of the behavior that has been going on in the prominently Jewish Hillside community ever since the emergency shutdowns were announced.

On source said that NYPD went after the truckers because Jewish leaders in the area complained that the trucks were blocking their parking.

The largely Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish communities in Brooklyn have continued to hold large gatherings such as weddings despite orders to stay at home and observe social distancing when in public amidst the threat of the coronavirus pandemic, the New York Post reported.

The NYPD source explained to Blue Lives Matter that the Orthodox and Hasidic communities are a politically powerful voting bloc in that area and elected officials usually try hard not to raise their ire.

“It’s awful. If there’s any disagreement between the Hasidic community and NYPD officers, the city almost exclusively sides with the Jewish community there,” the source complained. “It doesn’t matter how right the police officer is. A lot of the laws get flouted and a blind eye is turned because that community votes as a block and what they say goes with the mayor.”

He said the raid on the sleeping truck drivers never should have happened during the state of emergency.

“This is a situation where the precinct commander didn’t have the balls to tell the community leaders that they’re being ridiculous,” the NYPD official told Blue Lives Matter. “Why would he send officers to mess with these truckers who need to deliver supplies, effectively exposing all of the officers and the truckers to each other for no reason? It’s just inexcusable.”

Truck drivers across the United States have been working furiously to deliver supplies across the nation to refill the shelves stripped by panicked shoppers going into self quarantine as the coronavirus pandemic spreads across the country.

Many rest stops are closed along highways, and that’s where most of the truckers do their overnight stays on long hauls, according to KRNV.

There have been numerous reports of police departments across the country helping out the truckers by running their orders through restaurant drive-thrus because the trucks are usually too big to fit.

In Eufaula, Alabama, the police department announced they wanted to help the hungry truck drivers, AL.com reported.

“To that end, if you are a truck driver, and need to take time off the road in Eufaula, we will assist you in getting food,” the Eufaula Police Department posted on their official Facebook page. “With more and more restaurants limiting their dining room access, it is becoming harder for our truck driving friends to find places to eat. We will either go get something for you, or give you a ride to the nearest drive through (if you don’t mind riding in the back seat).”

“If manpower is such that we cannot assist, we will secure someone that can,” the police department promised.

In Nevada, residents have been delivering warm meals to the drivers stuck in their rigs, KRNV reported.

"We are working non-stop, but it's to make sure people get what they need," Ronda Aucoin, a truck driver from Kentucky, said. "Nevadans have been especially nice, since a few places are closed and not allowing us to stay the night when we're done working."

Neither NYPD nor New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office responded to Blue Lives Matter’s request for comment.

Think they should be arresting those in the community that are having large gatherings spreading the virus instead of hassling the ones trying to help the nation

New York should be totally ashamed of this, truck drivers are the soul of this country, not just right now, but always, if the hasidic jews have that much of a problem, stop truck deliveries to them

"May be Criminal"---- We as Americans know its origins and purpose and believe that we can no longer keep kicking the can down the road hoping that the problem goes away. YES! Schumer said "I'm from Brooklyn,we speak in strong language."
REALLY! Chuck, and this 'STRONG Brooklyn language' is over KILLING BABY'S???? Damn! Chuck YOU are NOT in Brooklyn any more. If your HEAD was NOT so far up YOUR A$$ YOU just MIGHT KNOW this. REMEMBER! Chuck DON'T let YOUR ALLIGATOR MOUTH OVERLOAD YOUR HUMMINGBIRD A$$. You could get your DICK knock in the DIRT around here over your 'STRONG Brooklyn language'. Oh! YES,Chuck 'WE THE PEOPLE' DON'T GIVE A DAMN where you are FROM. If he was NO LONGER on GOD'S green earth in the A.M. I for one would NOT EVEN miss him. ONLY "WE the PEOPLE" can MAKE them answer for their actions! Chuck is like a CANCER and a TOTAL waste of HUMAN SKIN. He should NEVER hold any OFFICE. Let me give all of you fine upstanding folks who think that you live RIGHT at the foot of the CROSS a little INFO. here about TRUCK DRIVERS, They DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE A LOAD/CARGO ANYWHERE THEY DON'T WANT TO. THAT IS RULE NO.1 Now if all of these TRUCK DRIVERS were to get together they could make sure that NO TRUCK over two tons were to DRIVE into Brooklyn for NEXT FIFTY or SIXTY DAYS. Let us make sure those fine folk's DRIVE OUT OF Brooklyn to get what is the LOAD/CARGO on those TRUCKS. HAPPY MOTORING MF.

Lets all call James King at the 66th and tell the butthole he's an abject butthole. Here's the number 718-851-5611. It's not an emergency line, so you wont be interfering with anything critical. This crap is an embarrassment. Truckers hate driving into NYC as it is, now the NYPD is harassing them. If anything, they should put a patrol car on the street to ensure these hard working truckers are safe, and let them know they are appreciated.

A BIG THANKS to all the truck drivers who are working extra long hours during this time!!! Love ya all - Also huge thanks for those others working long hours. For those doing the towing, hmmmm.... what brings your and your family’s food and supplies to the grocery store? (That’s just the bare minimum)

I just shared with my friend who is a coordinator for the Teamsters Union. This should help the truckers avoid this toxic area or possibly NYC in general.

This is why I will never deliver to New York, they can deliver their own loads if they need supplies, but we still have people willing to haul to and from New York and New York cops will continue harassing the truck driver and causing them financial harm, they don’t want us there, they harass us constantly.

As a driver we should band as brothers and sisters and shut all our trucks down for a day or 2. Show these community leaders how vital we are and how important the trucking industry is. The great 🇺🇸 would come to a screeching halt. I do not want this to happen but both the FMC and local governments need to ease up on us. I also hope NYC dismisses all towing and impounding fees to these great hero drivers. I'm not asking for a shut down or strike but it is food for thought if we were to stop and what the outcome could be.

All the officers had to do is be polite and ask the truckers to move there trucks instead of being butt fucking idiot's and side with people that now wants to starve cause I'm sure the truckers would rather let them starve to death because they can't get there product to the people that need it

This is just one of many reasons i wont drive east coast. I'm happy staying western 11. In anycase, they don't like truckers and wont respect the work and service we provide, then perhaps we as drivers should all refuse all loads going into NYC. Give it the FULL Lock down quarantine and not deliver any goods for two weeks. Lets see if the jewish community and the cops change their tune afterwards.

I have family members who are hard working proud long distance truck drivers. I have family members who are also hard working proud LEOers. With that said, I agree with some of these comments made on this blog that this Police Commander should be fired and anyone else above him should be identified and dealt with in the same manner. I think that the responding officers including the tow truck drivers should have refused any actions towards these truckers. What should have been done was that the officers/tow truck drivers should have asked if these truckers needed any help to locate areas of rest or food. When this incident is over with, I hope as one person stated that these truckers get reimbursed for their loss by either the government/complainants/source of delivery or their employers. If these complainants are identified as I recommended above, it would be interesting to see how they go about defending their actions when the city of New York/Other communities do not receive the needed equipment for all these patients that are sick, including the possibility of the complainants and or relatives. People, make better choices!!! I am concerned that this happened as it did because of a special group of people wanting their parking area cleared in front of their million dollar homes. Apparently this group forgot about the troubles they suffered and or their relatives suffered years ago. Shame on you!!! Truckers, do what you must, but remember your actions will have consequences for innocent people who depend on your skills/products to survive in this medical pandemic. Officers/Tow trucker drivers, use common sense and make the right decision to what is right. Be safe out there guys and gals, this will be over soon.

Total ass hole move on this spineless police inspector.
Just trying suck the balls of Brooklyn cowboys to get advancement in the bs nypd power
structure. Where is chief of patrol on this. This inspector should be demoted and crushed.

But nypd always covers up and defends bs actions of high ranks like this. Blue lives matter call 1pp ssk for Chief Pichardo whos chief of patrol. Demand summons be voided and trucks released without charge.
This is bs.

It should not take a pandemic for truck drivers to be appreciated step one... Step two just because of the pandemic truckers should not be skirting the laws. With that being said this didn't need to happen. Truckers have personal conveyance options and the officers could of simply woken the drivers and asked them to move. Its time for the entire North East to be a little better to us truckers. If you police think things are bad right now... if us truckers unite and make a choice to shut commerce down going into New England, and the Metro Ny and Jersey areas we don't need a pandemic to do that and we definitely don't need the permission from the police.

I normally support the LEO's but this is ridiculous. They couldn't have asked them to move to a parking lot somewhere? These drivers are trying to help the US by delivering products we all need and need to rest. Give them a break on this and release the semi's with no charge

I could never figure out why people hated the Jews. Now I'm beginning to get it. These are not the right decisions for ANYONE, esp. NY. They are the worst hit with the covid 19 thing and the Jews are still carrying on like there was nothing going on? This is DISGUSTING. I love Israel and I love the people there, but this is JUST WRONG on every level!

I'm a Brooklyn Girl, born and raised. This is disgusting. I'm also a retired trucker. I used to get hassled when I'd come into Staten Island to visit my mom. Guess they nev6saw a female truck driver. But this here is down right pathetic. I pray that everyone of those truckers get re-embursed for their troubles. It fight it if I were them. Write the Governor. Cuomo don't play. I bet he'll set things straight.

Now I want you to imagine what would happen if all of us said, "No More." And stayed home. A Blue Flu is one thing, but if all the Truckers in this country were to Park it and give LEOs and the rest of the nation the Finger. You would all starve within a week and would have to use leaves to wipe your back side within days.

It's crap like this that has kept me out of NYC proper for over 15 years. Now if the rest would do the same we'd bring these Adam Henry's to their collective knees.

I had a similar situation when Sandy hit. Running emergency supplies and power equipment to a bunch of ungrateful ass wipes. On the second run i made sure the media got my story. That’s when it ended and my expenses reimbursed. Not before telling them to pick up their stuff at the PA line.

This reminds me of trainees I had in the past who were so hot to trot to enforce the law that they worried about writing a parking ticket while a robbery was taking place a few blocks away. Shame on these officers, their leaders and the entire precinct for not jumping on their fellow officers to stop this crap.

well it is now time for all truckers Across America to say screw New York they already cut off all of New England, New England could not get supplies without paying a bounty to New York and now they're trying to screw the rest of the country on emergency supplies. This so-called Commander who is too cowardly to stand up to the community for the good of the country is apparently too much of a coward to do what is right for the country his lacking of intelligence knowing the result would be the holdup of emergency supplies should not be permitted to command any forces no coward or idiot should be permitted to command troops of any sort, this individual should also stand ready the face possible charges from the entire American population for the possible death and harm to other Americans for his foolish holdup of emergency supplies. In addition perhaps several drug dealers and manufacturers should move into a community and take it over because apparently according to this the community has control, the law means nothing obey the community , and the PCS judgment on appointing this Commander indicates to me all of his decisions need to be called into question, this is a criminal act on the part of the 66 Precinct Commander the officers who performed these acts and the people in the community who requested it. in addition I believe the name of the Community member who filed the complaint needs to be made public to the American people this foolish cowardice needs to end.

Can you explain "New York they already cut off all of New England, New England could not get supplies without paying a bounty to New York"? Do they charge truckers just to drive through NY to get to New England?

Just stop delivering there or charge double for the haul (in preparation of being fined & towed). Better yet.... just stop delivering. Watch them cry and beg for you to come back and help
