Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, was indicted for failing to register as a sex offender in California.

Los Angeles, CA – Rapper Nicki Minaj’s husband turned himself in to police on Wednesday after he was indicted for failure to register as a sex offender.

According to the indictment, 41-year-old Kenneth Petty served four years in a New York prison after he was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in 1995, Billboard reported.

The rape happened in 1994, when Petty and his victim were both 16 years old, FOX News reported.

The New York Police Department’s (NYPD) Sex Offender Database noted that a “knife/cutting instrument” was used in the crime, according to FOX News.

He registered as a sex offender with the state of New York when he was released.

And then a few years later Petty was convicted of manslaughter in the shooting death of another man and served an additional seven years in prison, FOX News reported.

He was released in 2013.

The most recent indictment said that when Petty moved to California in 2019, he failed to register as a sex offender, according to Billboard.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records showed that Beverly Hills police officers stopped Petty for a traffic infraction in November of 2019, FOX News reported.

During the stop, officers realized that Petty had not registered as a sex offender in California.

He was arrested during that incident but it wasn’t known what the charges were, FOX News reported.

Petty was later released on a $20,000 bond.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Petty made his first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon, FOX News reported.

He pleaded “not guilty” and was later released on a $100,000 bond.

“He is required to submit to electronic monitoring and his travel was restricted to Southern California," the U.S. Attorney's Office told FOX News.

TMZ reported that Petty has to wear an ankle monitor and adhere to a curfew, and he cannot use drugs, including marijuana from legal dispensaries.

The internationally-famous rapper’s husband was also required to surrender his passport.

Awesome. Thanks to all of the LEOs who investigate and pursue these cases; it's so important.

The national sex offender registry website is here:

For most states, it allows you to put in an address, and see any offenders who reside or work near you.

I do not see Virginia or Maryland listed. Their websites are, respectively:

Virginia's is really great. You can enter a zipcode, and it will give you a map, and you can click on icons to see pictures of the perps, as well as what their charges were.

I'd encourage everyone to take a look. You could have a neighbor that you need to tell your children or spouse about.

This is clearly the DA selectively enforcing the law because of the color of his skin. Where is Al Sharpton to demand his freedom, and that the officers be fired because the only reason they knew his was an unregistered sex offender was because they checked due ot the color of his skin!!! /sarcasm for those who missed it.

I don't really like that law because it punishes sex offenders for the rest of their life also half of them are innocent because a rape kit is not required all it takes is a female saying you did it without any evidence an I don't agree with that

Who in their right mind would want a husband who is a sex offender? Who would want to raise a child with him around? I didn't see that she had kids but it's possible they could. These "rap" people are not mentally stable and their life styles, clothing choices, and their language is abhorant. I just see disease when I look at them. When their children grow up they will see how they conducted themselves on stage. Disgusting and certainly not role models for kids to watch. There were many complaints with the half time show at the Super Bowl.. It's not freedom of expression, it's expressing your true self which isn't appropriate for any one to view. I don't want to watch you flopping your boobs, grinding your front or twerking your butt. You're disgusting.

My thoughts exactly. I hate rap music and I hate sex offenders. I hope these two have not reproduced.

If you type Meghan's Law into your browser you can type in your zip code for a list of sex offenders near you, photos and what their offenses are.
