Nicki Minaj's Husband Arrested For Failing To Register As Sex Offender
Los Angeles, CA – Rapper Nicki Minaj’s husband turned himself in to police on Wednesday after he was indicted for failure to register as a sex offender.
According to the indictment, 41-year-old Kenneth Petty served four years in a New York prison after he was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in 1995, Billboard reported.
The rape happened in 1994, when Petty and his victim were both 16 years old, FOX News reported.
The New York Police Department’s (NYPD) Sex Offender Database noted that a “knife/cutting instrument” was used in the crime, according to FOX News.
He registered as a sex offender with the state of New York when he was released.
And then a few years later Petty was convicted of manslaughter in the shooting death of another man and served an additional seven years in prison, FOX News reported.
He was released in 2013.
The most recent indictment said that when Petty moved to California in 2019, he failed to register as a sex offender, according to Billboard.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records showed that Beverly Hills police officers stopped Petty for a traffic infraction in November of 2019, FOX News reported.
During the stop, officers realized that Petty had not registered as a sex offender in California.
He was arrested during that incident but it wasn’t known what the charges were, FOX News reported.
Petty was later released on a $20,000 bond.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Petty made his first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon, FOX News reported.
He pleaded “not guilty” and was later released on a $100,000 bond.
“He is required to submit to electronic monitoring and his travel was restricted to Southern California," the U.S. Attorney's Office told FOX News.
TMZ reported that Petty has to wear an ankle monitor and adhere to a curfew, and he cannot use drugs, including marijuana from legal dispensaries.
The internationally-famous rapper’s husband was also required to surrender his passport.
