NFL Star Julian Edelman Arrested For Jumping On Hood Of Mercedes

NFL star Julian Edelman was arrested for jumping on on the hood of a Mercedes Benz and damaging it

Beverly Hills, CA – New England Patriots star Julian Edelman was arrested Saturday night after he jumped on the hood of a Mercedes-Benz and caused damage to the hood.

Edelman was in Beverly Hills walking around at 9 p.m. when he did the damage, according to TMZ.

Police were in Beverly Hills working on a robbery case when someone alerted them to what Edelman did, TMZ reported.

Edelman was arrested and given a ticket for misdemeanor vandalism and released.

TMZ reported that an anonymous police source said it was apparent to them that Edelman had been drinking. He had been at dinner earlier in the evening at a Beverly Hills restaurant with former National Basketball Association player Paul Pierce and Detroit Lions player Danny Amendola, who used to be his teammate.

ESPN reported that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether to press charges. ESPN reported it was likely that Edelman would settle with the car owner and charges would likely be dropped.

The Boston Globe reported that Edelman is scheduled for shoulder and knee surgery this offseason.

Edelman has played his entire 10-year career with the Patriots, although he was a late bloomer. In 2013, he caught 105 passes for 1,056 yards. Edelman only caught 69 passes in his first four years with New England before that breakout 2013 season. In his career, he’s caught 599 passes for 6,507 yards.

Edelman has also excelled in the playoffs. He has 118 receptions for 1,442 yards in the playoffs in 19 games. Those 118 playoff receptions are second-most in the history of the NFL behind Jerry’s Rice’s 151 receptions.

Edelman was a seventh-round draft pick from Kent State in 2009 for the Patriots. He has earned $37.6 million in salary over his career. He made $11 million in 2019.

Weird. I checked the last 10 or so stories of athletes getting in trouble, and none of them except this one uses 3 paragraphs to detail the athlete's success on the field. It's like you're finishing off the story saying "he did something bad, but look at how good he is at his job."

I wonder why there's such a glaring difference in writing?

He ought to still be charged, then pay restitution as part of his sentence.

When I first saw this, my initial thought was he got drunk, and did something stupid. And lo and behold, I was right. Have him pay for the repairs, and this becomes a non-issue.

and for the the trolls, he was arrested for a non-violent, non-weapons related, and no injury to the public related charge. That's a lot different than many of the other professional sports players whose stories you are looking at.
