NFL's Patrick Mahomes Faces Backlash, Accused Of Defending George Zimmerman

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes became the target of backlash after his tweets about the case resurfaced.

Kansas City, MO – Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has become the target of backlash after critics accused him of defending George Zimmerman in a series of old tweets.

Zimmerman was a neighborhood watch leader who fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26, 2012, but was acquitted using in a 2013 jury trial.

Martin was visiting his father in Sanford when he encountered Zimmerman, who told police he was out patrolling the neighborhood when he encountered the teen, the Miami Herald reported.

Zimmerman had reported Martin to police and was following him before the two engaged in a physical altercation that ended when the 28-year-old Zimmerman fatally shot the teen.

Prosecutors called it an unjustified shooting of a teenager eating Skittles and Zimmerman claimed it was self-defense, according to the Miami Herald.

Mahomes’ tweets resurfaced just prior to the AFC Championship game on Jan. 19, FOX News reported.

One post dated back to 2011 - long before the shooting even took place. In that tweet, he suggested that people shouldn't assault police or resist arrest

“Stop resisting or assaulting a cop,” that message read, according to the Miami Herald.

Another post was made in response to someone who referred to the Zimmerman case as “an absolute tragedy.”

“No one knows what actually happens which is why he is not guilty but a crime could have occurred,” Mahomes wrote.

In one thread, Mahomes seemed to defend Martin while discussing the case with a former teammate.

“There was no reason for Zimmerman to follow him and Trayvon just defended himself and Zimmerman had a [gun] so he shot him,” the quarterback opined.

His tweets on the shooting don't actually appear to support Zimmerman at all, but that didn’t stop Twitter users from blasting him.

Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will go head-to-head against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2.

Make Mahomes white half ride the bench for the SB. That should please the triggered.

I'm not watching the Superbowl, since I am still participating in my own little personal boycott, but I am rooting for this guy. His Twitter profile pic is a giant American flag in a full stadium. It really takes some guts and integrity for an NFL player to come out in support of LEOs in 2019...

In Florida v. Zimmerman the Prosecution attempted to railroad GZ and withheld evidence from the defense. All because Rachel Corey, the Prosecutor needed to restore her cred in with the black community. A man almost lost his freedom because of racial politics. Sickening.

This is ridiculous. Mahomes is a good dude - he's no Tom Brady and his girlfriend is a kook... but he's a good guy

So because a young man expressed his opinion people now want to "cancel" him...THIS is what is wrong with this country. Patrick is one of the most sincere, bright, thoughtful young man you'd ever hope to meet. Those on Twitter that are hoping to cause him grief had better be prepared for the backlash that WILL occur should they choose to go after him. Just sayin'

So Patrick Mahomes defends George Zimmerman the racist who hunted down and murdered a black unarmed teen? That's okay. A lot of people defend and lionize Micah Xavier Johnson for hunting down and executing 4 Texas police officers and a white supremacist police officer. (Lorne Arhens can burn in hell- the bullet that executed him was golden). Xavier Micah Johnson was a patriot and a soldier who did what he felt was right just like the twisted racist George Zimmerman. We all have our heroes. but if I see Mahomes crossing the street, you can bet I won't break for him.

George Zimmerman is a jerk but he is not a murderer. Martin start the physical confrontation and got him butt shot for it, legally. Obama and Holder got involved otherwise charges would have not been filed. I guess they felt entitled to override Florida law.
Holder even tried ever trick in the book to charge Darren Wilson in Ferguson and failed.
Holder is a horrendous racist.

Contrary to "liberal" dogma, Travon did not have a "civil right" to murder Zim by slamming his head against a concrete sidewalk just because Trayvon felt "disrespected"

This is why we are the greatest nation in the world. Mahomes can say what he wants, you don't have to agree with it. But I think was he said was at least true, he is innocent until proven guilty. It seems like the click bait writers that pump out BS non-stories like this, should be held to a higher standard of facts and truth. There is no ethics in whorenalism, sorry journalism any more.
