NFL Creates 'Social Justice Committee' To Help Kneelers Push Message

The NFL has announced the formation of a "social justice committee."

New York, NY – The National Football League announced Tuesday that it has officially established an owner-player “social justice committee” created to help the league better focus on social and racial justice issues.

"We feel that we are going to make significant progress as we have more meetings, as we get more focused on our efforts, it's going to actually come to life," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a press conference on Jan. 23. "And frankly, we will get better as the days go by."

Goodell said the committee will focus on education, economic development, community and police relations, and the criminal justice system.

He said the committee is just the beginning of the process, but that it will help them build greater awareness and help them focus on social justice and racial justice initiatives, according to ABC News.

The committee, made up of five players and five owners, was the league’s latest step in its seven-year, $90 million commitment to players’ social justice issues, Sports Illustrated reported.

It’s also the first tangible step in a quest to try to get players to stop kneeling, which they hope will stop the rapid retreat of fans from NFL stadiums and televised games.

Former 49er Colin Kaepernick caused massive controversy when he began the trend of NFL players kneeling when the national anthem was played before football games. Fans expressed their opinions with their wallets and the NFL has been struggling on all fronts.

Ignoring the disastrous ratings, the NFL decided to full embrace the “social justice” aspect of the game, but hit a snag, the Daily Wire reported.

Initially, the NFL had said it was considering creating a fund to bankroll social justice efforts, but had to walk the idea back after it was revealed that the funding for those new social justice initiatives would have come out of funds previously designated for breast cancer and veterans’ charities.

Here's a quick article about the NFL's "disastrous ratings."

Still by far the most watched program on American Television.

No one cares what billionaire owners and thug millionaire players have to opine about.....especially 'social justice' Fuk the police issues!

Maybe boycott the NFL on something actually important, like how they glaze over domestic violence and sweep head injuries under the rug. Or hell, protest them because their commercial breaks are too long and frequent.

Just stop pretending that you're not watching football due to kneeling. The numbers show not nearly as many people are actually boycotting the NFL that say they are.

Ronnytx031
Ronnytx031

Funny I didn't red anything on how they were going to talk to young males on how to act and behave so you don't have these run ins with these bad officers. Didn't see how since they are more likely to suffer from black on black crime they would have to take a training class on how to treat each other.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@Ronnytx031 really? Because that's exactly what Kap has been doing since he hasn't been playing football. Or has your favorite news source not covered something positive about him?

Interesting reading form a USA Today article. Maybe they are not as "thuggish" as some of you think?

Sickandtired
Sickandtired

One N.F.L. player in 40 is arrested in a given year. There are 32 teams, each with 53 players on its roster plus another eight on its practice squad (plus more players who show up for training camp but do not make the team, but we didn’t attempt to account for them). Thus over the nearly 15 years that the USA Today data goes back, the 713 arrests mean that 2.53 percent of players have had a serious run-in with the law in an average year. That may sound bad, but the arrest rate is lower than the national average for men in that age range.

Sickandtired

Now let's break it down some-

Would you look at that. Stats that tell the real story.

Looks like the vast majority of the arrests are DUI. Not a good thing, but not a very "thuggish" crime

What about the 88 that is Assault and battery? How about the 85 that is domestic battery?

Sickandtired
Sickandtired

What about them. Those number are well below the national average for "regular" non NFL players.

Sickandtired
Sickandtired

You do realize those numbers are over a 14 year period, right? Not all in one year.

gringocop
gringocop

Stats don't show the amount of crimes covered up by the team and their security personnel. I will continue to boycott these savages as long as they continue to disrespect, disparage and malign the police. This morphed into the flag debacle, but it all comes down to blacks hating the police.

Sickandtired
Sickandtired

The difference is, when your buddy Billy Bob down the road smacks his old lady around, it doesn't make national news.

Sickandtired
Sickandtired

@gringocop, So just how many Cops drive drunk, commit other crimes, and other Cops cover it up? You think things like that are unique to the NFL?

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@Harleykins71 have ratings gone down over the past few years? Absolutely. But your article also mentions cord cutting and their handling of domestic violence issues as reasons numbers are down.

Your article actually said the decrease in the regilar season was not as bad as playoffs season, but they're comparing it to themselves. In the large scheme, NFL is still by far the most watched program in American TV.

Honest question. Do you think their numbers will get worse? I don't think they will, not for those that claim to have boycotted due to kneeling. Cord cutting will probably continue to eat into the NFL though, as it has with everything on scheduled TV.

Sickandtired
Sickandtired

I am betting cord cutting is the biggest reason. All networks are losing viewers to that. Until they come up with an internet based subscription like CBS has now, they will continue to lose viewers. I got rid of cable TV a while ago.

I-am-me
I-am-me

As an NFL player they know they are in the limelight, same as high paid actors, etc. If they don't want it in the media then don't commit the crime. I don't care if its 14 yrs or 24 yrs, 88 etc are high numbers.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@Sickandtired same. I haven't had a cable box in about 5 years now, and neither I not my wallet have missed it.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@I-am-me that's not high at all for 14 years.

Carry that same energy for the national average, if it bothers you that much.

RetiredCaLe
RetiredCaLe

Let’s see, do these NFL players get paid to participate in social justice causes or to play football? Having them, many of whom have been convicted of felonies/misdemeanors, in charge of better relations with LE, is like putting the fox in charge of the jhen house.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@RetiredCaLe see above. A very small percentage are criminals, lower than national average.

And technically, kneeling doesn't interfere with the game at all. It's literally before the kickoff.

shortandsassy61
shortandsassy61

This is so wrong, you know the NFL only cares about the money. If that wasn't the case then I don't think they'd have a problem letting Veterans air their ad asking for people to stand for them. Just disgusting and personally I hope the ratings continue to plummet

shortandsassy61
shortandsassy61

Hi_estCommDenomm
The kneeling is done during the National Anthem, which is extremely disrespectful to those who fought. Many of the players, would NOT even be playing football, much less making millions, if not for our military, so it's more than just about the game

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@shortandsassy61 apparently The veteran group tried to change their slogan last minute, and the NFL was trying to compromise and accomodate. The group was unwilling to change, and the NFL had to start post production for the Super Bowl. Afterwards, the group took it to the media for attention.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@shortandsassy61 the fact that the kneeling upsets you is an opinion you're entitled to. But you definitely don't speak for all veterans.

The showboating by the NFL millionaires not only is an insult to millions of the fans but police baiting based on a false narrative that is supersizing the Ferguson Effect that has resulted in the murders of dozens of police officers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQCQFH5wOJo&t=1s

Social Justice means committing ANY CRIME you want without the threat of Arrest or Prosecution. Look for the NFL and NBA to do Public Service Announcements about not Snitching! See something say NOTHING, New NFL slogan! I will take a guess I believe to be on the LOW side. I will say that 80% of NFL players have had run ins with the Police and would be in Prison if they were not Athletes, this covers High School, College and Pro! I think this is an UNDERESTIMATE! Aaron Hernandez being a Perfect example, he was a Gang Banger nearly all his life. Even becoming a rich successful athlete did not deter him from Murder and Drug sales and use! I was a fan of his in College, where no one reported his illegal activities that continued through College and into the NFL. The NCAA and NFL tried to act shocked about his criminal activities, There is no possible way they did not know! I worked in Correction for 24 years. We used to notice and comment on at work how his Gang Tattoos increased though College and once he hit the NFL. I had one Sgt. especialy who always commented that he had to still be in the Lifestyle. The Sgt. nailed it. Sad that the NFL wants this to call this a Positive Roll Model!

Lds719 I hold Police at a higher standard than an NFL player. They swear an oath to protect. Notice how the vast majority of Police crimes are violent AKA thuggish. I just think most of the posters on here are close minded. They will not even listen to anything that contradicts their far right views. Dare I say Alt-Right.

"That may sound bad, but the arrest rate is lower than the national average for men in that age range." And we are told the reason is due to poverty and poor education. When is the last time you saw an impoverished NFL payer? Aren't they recruited out of college? Always looking for excuses for self-entitled thugs. There IS NO EXCUSE!!

You hold No one but the Police to ANY STANDARD! The Protest has been about Wanting NO PUNISHMENT FOR ANY CRIME! This is EXACTLY WHAT ALL SOCIAL JUSTICE IS ABOUT! Don't do the Crime and don't worry about the Police. You support the MURDER of Police if you support BLM the Black Panthers, Obama, Sharpton. Jesse Jackson, Farrakhan, The Clintons! You do not speak of Lowering Crime, how about Education! NFL players were given free College, how many actualy earned a Degree? You need to HOLD YOURSELF accountable and clean up your neighborhood! Social Justice is about Making CRIMINALS HEROES! How many Famous Rappers DO NOT HAVE FELONY convictions? How many NFL idiots have not committed crimes and got by with it do to the NFL buying their way out! You are as LOST as a Human can get!
