Bowie, MD - 38-year-old Navar Beverly is being charged with murder after he killed his stepfather and then posted a selfie with the body to Twitter.
Police responded to the home in the 15000 block of Dalby Drive in Bowie just after 8 AM on Saturday when Beverly's mother called 911 to report that her son had strangled her husband, Ronald Pinkney.
Police arrived and contacted Beverly's mother who said he told her that he had killed Pinkney and that he was "dead in the garage." Officers located Pinkney's body with trauma to the right and and bruising on his neck.
Beverly had already fled the home before officers had arrived. Officers located him driving his minivan in the Landover area. When officers attempted to stop him, he led them on a pursuit before crashing his van and then fleeing on foot.
The police were able to take Beverly into custody.
Investigators later discovered that Beverly had tweeted out a selfie next to his stepfather's dead body on Friday night. Twitter has since removed the photo.
Most of Beverly's tweets appear to be random nonsense, typed in all caps.
Neighbors described Pinkney as a "really good guy," according to WUSA9.
“I just talked to him last night right after he had mowed the lawn,” a neighbor said. “He looked out for everybody.”
“He would take everything if he saw trash, he would pick it up. Or if you were a stranger, he’d say hi. You know just make sure everyone was taken care of.”
Navar Beverly is charged with first and second degree murder. He is in the custody of Department of Corrections on no bond.
