Phoenix, AZ - A naked female suspect stole a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office vehicle on Thurday, and fled from Deputies. A pursuit was initiated, the female suspect wrecked, and is now in custody.
According to ABC 15 Arizona, a Maricopa County Deputy Sheriff responded to a call of a disturbance involving a naked female at a Shell gas station in Gila Bend. Upon arrival about 9:00 AM, the female suspect overpowered the MCSO Deputy, got into the MCSO vehicle and stole it. The Maricopa Sheriff's Deputy commandeered a citizen's vehicle and began a pursuit, using his handheld radio to communicate directions. Other Officers responded to assist.
The pursuit, most of which was captured on live news video, began on Interstate 8 near Butterfield Trail and ended on Interstate 10 at Milepost 210 near Picacho Peak. The Arizona Department of Public Safety assisted the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office with deployment of spike strips to stop the vehicle but they were ineffective. The female suspect was driving the wrong way on the highway during part of the pursuit before crashing. The Maricopa County Deputy was injured and the extent of his injuries are not known.
According to Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez, Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman, "An MCSO vehicle was taken by a suspect earlier this morning as a deputy responded to a call for service in Gila Bend. The situation is now over, the deputy has sustained injuries and the suspect is now in custody." She was also injured and the extent of her injuries are unknown.
No names have yet been released. According to 3TV News, the Arizona Department of Public Safety is at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
