McDonald's Manager Tells Cop "I Don't Like Y'all," Company Responds Immediately

"I don't like y'all," the manager told Andalusia Police officer Kody Taylor.

Andalusia, AL – McDonald’s said it has fired an employee who degraded a uniformed Andalusia police officer in the drive-thru last weekend.

The incident took place on Aug. 11, when on-duty Andalusia Police Officer Kody Taylor stopped by the fast-food joint for lunch, according to his since-deleted Facebook post.

“So I swing through the drive thru for lunch while on duty and the nice lady at the window says give me just a second,” Officer Taylor explained in the post. “She walks off and returns with the manager and says ‘doesn’t Law Enforcement receive a discount’…her manager…stated ‘yea unfortunately we do.’”

Officer Taylor said he was caught “off guard” by the rude remark, but that he didn’t say anything as the manager passed in his code to apply the discount.

“When he finished he glanced at me and said ‘I don’t like y’all,’” the officer wrote.

The restaurant and its parent company, Murphy Family Restaurants, took swift action, and fired the unnamed employee within a day, the City of Andalusia said in a Facebook post on Monday.

“The McDonald’s representatives have apologized to the officer and to the department, and terminated the employee,” the post read.

The city also posted a photo of Andalusia Police Chief Paul Hudson as he met with members of the company to discuss the issue.

“What occurred does not reflect the values of our brand, our franchise, or the love and admiration we have demonstrated consistently for our friends in law enforcement and first responders,” Murphy Family Restaurants Director of Marketing and Community Outreach Eddie Byrd said. “We express our sincerest apology.”

Chief Hudson said that he and the officers understand that the now-former manager was the one responsible for the incident – not the company as a whole.

“As a department, we don’t hold McDonald’s responsible for one employee’s action,” Chief Hudson said, according to the city’s post. “We want all of those who were upset when they learned about the incident to know McDonald’s immediately took action to correct the problem.”

The city noted that the Andalusia McDonald’s restaurant also offers a 50 percent discount to all on-duty first responders.

While it may not have had anything to do with what was said, no law enforcement officer should receive any discount, for anything, anywhere, at any time.

When I was in the academy, we had to memorize the Law Enforcement Officer's Code of Ethics, part of which was vowing to never accept gratuities, in whatever form, to include food discounts...even free coffee.

They're not giving the LEO's a discount, they're charging everyone else double! Accept it with grace for job well done and quit being a dick.

So, it was his opinion. Nothing wrong with this. It is called freedom of speech. This is so hypocrite of how America works. So trash this place. It is very bias and it sucks.

Too bad the response isn't like this when cops misbehave. You're interested and given all sorts of obstacles. Then the police themselves decide if the transgression occured and never inform you of the decision.

@Burgers Allday If the discount is well established and given to all first responders it is perfectly fine and within policy guidelines. You botched it yet again.

Read the New York Times (which some people call the New York Slimes) article more carefully. I don't know what the Alabama law is in this area, but we may find out now that this story out of Andalusia has made the news. This will be especially true if the terminated employee sues the municipality, and contests how the exchange went down.

Hard to know how to feel about this unless and until the terminated employee tells his or her side of the story.

The Anti Law Enforcement sentiment, currently on display in the USA today, is a direct result of Hussein Obama's disdain for US Law Enforcement Agencies he exhibited during his two terms of Potus. There was no Black Lives Matter prior to his Presidency. Further exacerbating the anti-leo sentiment, the public witnessed, was the fact that one of the "Black Lives Matter" organization directors had an office in Government and was paid $160K salary. When the Potus praised "Black Lives Matter", during comments he made when interviewed live, he opened "Pandora's Box"! Especially since his comments of praise, for "Black Lives Matter", were prior to the State Medical Examiner's report was released. When the medical examiner's report on Michael Brown's autopsy was released, the facts therein totally destroyed the "Hands Up Dont Shoot" mantra as the autopsy and forensic investigation provided proof that the criminal's hands were not up, he was aggressively advancing on the leo and he was NOT SHOT IN THE BACK. Of course liberals have a hard time with forensic evidence that proves their theories and arguments wrong, but, there was more evidence released, relative to the criminal's state of mind, just prior to his assaulting the leo that arrived on scene. CCTV from convenience store that the call to police was originated from, showed Michael Brown, in fact attempted to steal "cigarillos" of some sort, then, aggressively assaulting the store owner when he verbally tried stopping Brown from exiting the store with the items he did not pay for. The physical assault the store owner endured was not deserved, but, the video of the entire ordeal showed the mindset of this very Large criminal. So, bad timing on Barry Soetoro's[aka Hussein Obama] part, praising "Black Lives Matter" prior to the State Medical Examiner's Autopsy Report being released. This "Presidential Praise" of a group, who's mantra was based on a LIE, emboldened the radical-leftist, criminal element, and what transpired as a result? Burning city blocks, aggravated assaults, shootings, and assaults on Police Officers in just about every Democrat party controlled city across the Country, until this very day! Before any of you liberal keyboard warriors go and call me a "ist-a-phobe-ic-phobe-a-phobe", research my comment specifics. While researching you'll come across YouTube videos of Michael Brown assaulting an older Black gentleman who was sitting outside of an apartment, not bothering anyone, but made the mistake of asking for a "light".... And the standard, "He was such a good boy", "he was going to go to college" ....... There are bad apples in every profession and in humanity itself. Ask your radical-leftist, liberal friends; if you hold the entirety of the Law Enforcement Community responsible for the bad acts of a few, do they do same with regards to humanity? Appling their leo logic to case of Michael Brown, are then all Black males criminals? They can't have it both ways!

It's always done as a courtesy, it's not expected, but it sure was nice back in the day. Looks like college7 has taken the place of Burgers Allday and their absurd remarks?

I see nothing wrong with First Responders getting discounted food. Its good for both. I am a former restaurant manager and I wanted their presence it made the staff more comfortable knowing they dropped in from time to time. I had an employee that had epileptic symptoms and none of us were aware of his condition. A first Responder happened to be in the restaurant when he had a seizure. Thank God for his quick actions.

If I was still on the job I wouldn't even consider eating at any restaurant in uniform in this day and age. Bring a lunch from home where you what condiments are on your sandwich...

I worked as a police officers for a municipality. One day I ran into a county deputy at Denny's and he asked me to join him for dinner. Afterwards, the waitress gave us our checks for full price. I went to the register to pay for my meal while the deputy had the balls to ask for the manager to demand his half price meal. I told the manager I wasn't with the asshole in green and paid full price for my meal.

A gratuity is the gift that keeps on giving. Seemingly harmless, but at just the wrong time, the payback favor could be demanded by a career ending unscrupulous person.

@Turtle6988 Which is why it's considered unethical. I think it's well deserved and I've paid for officer's meals. But most of the population feels its wrong because it might be expected that the officers will give the owner, or business preferential treatment. Which is exactly what your Taco Bell store did.

Its called a promotional discount. Its used for many things, including charitable contributions. I helped run a fast food place for while. Believe me, we wanted the police there. They helped business and kept thing clam.

You are never rude to a customer... regardless of your personal feelings. Now I would be willing to bet if someone was robbing the store or the home of this employee... he sure would like those officers then wouldn't he.

When I worked, smart businesses gave discounts and free food because they liked having cops' presence to dissuade bad people from robberies.

It makes me wonder what the response would have been to "I don’t like y’all" if the customer was a minority. This would have been National news and you would have people calling for a boycott of all McDonalds. Maybe it's time that "Blue People" were considered a protected minority. As far as discounts, many business' across the USA (including many restaurant chains, attractions and amusement parks) have posted discounts for 1st responders and military personal.

McDonald's has always been quick to action, whenever there has been any problem, with any customers in their stores. I remember a McDonald's store was the site of a terrible murder, of a patron just enjoying his late evening meal. It happened, just before closing, when another customer came into the store. Long story short, the end result was that store was totally demolished, so there would no longer be a symbol of death. McDonald's Corporation is very mindful of their management, crew members, and most importantly, their customers. I worked for McDonald's for almost two years, until I had to quit my job, for unrelenting dizziness, I guess McDonald's didn't want a " Crispy Caucasion " on their grill. I am so proud to have been a McDonald's employee, and I know that McDonald's will never allow hateful behavior or rhetoric, of any sort, to be perpetrated to its customers, or their employees. As far as I am concerned, anyone who puts their lives, daily, in harms way, deserves a discount, or a free cup of coffee, etc. If not for those who protect us, either in Law Enforcement, the Military, Emergency Medical Responders, etc. I am so happy to know that one ignorant person, is no longer subjecting the public, with his nasty and hateful words. God bless the officers and the management of McDonald's. Blessings to you all. Respectfully, Carla Lema.
