A man wearing camouflage fired shots into a school van and narrowly missed hitting young children

Shenango Township, PA – A man who is suspected of firing shots into a van carrying elementary school students was arrested Tuesday and police found a cache of guns, ammunition and bomb-making accessories in his home.

When Bryon Benetas, 41, was arrested by police, he was armed with a rifle that had a bump stock attached, according to WFMJ.

Benetas was arrested in a wooded area after a Shenango Area School van containing a driver and seven students was hit by two bullets earlier that morning, according to WFMJ.

WPXI reported that Benetas was wearing camouflage and hiding in the woods.

The police report said that one of the bullets just missed striking an eight-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy that were in the van. Some children were struck by shattered glass.

Police found a silencer as well as the bump-stock equipped rifle with a scope, WFMJ reported. Benetas also had a handgun, a 25-round magazine and a 50-round magazine.

He was wearing a camouflage suit and a facemask when arrested.

Police didn’t give details on the bomb-making materials that were found, according to WFMJ.

Benetas’ girlfriend told police that they had argued about five hours before the shooting.

While being led away by police, Benetas told a WPXI reporter that he did not shoot at the van.

Benetas was arraigned in court on Wednesday on 32 criminal counts. The charges included attempted homicide, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure and having a firearm without a license, according to WFMJ. Benetas’ bond was set at $150,000.

The next court hearing for Benetas is set for March 18, according to WFMJ.

Naw, he wasn’t shooting at the bus/van. The silencer, ammo and face mask was to hide from the deer. What an a**!!!!

Well I don't think bump stocks are made for .22's which is what he had at time of arrest. Knowing the way media likes to hype stories bomb making materials were maybe reloading supplies, powder, primers, etc. camo in the woods, hiding , why no eluding charge. Was he shooting at targets and stupid enough to not look beyond target. I'm not defending this fool must have an IQ equal to that of a troll. Police report would be interesting to read. Glad no one was hurt seriously.

2000: DUI > 0.10, Fleeing/eluding, drug possession, paraphernalia possession.

2012: Careless driving. (Docket shows something about a DUI ARD program.
