Man Uses Racial Slur On Social Media To Describe Running Over Good Samaritan

Matthew Martin fatally struck a good Samaritan (pictured) with his truck, then used a racial slur to describe the man.

Vernon Parish, LA – An 18-year-old is believed to have used a racial slur in a message he sent on social media to describe a pedestrian he struck and killed on a Louisiana highway.

Social media posts have surface which show that Matthew Martin appeared more concerned with the damage to his 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck than killing Sherell Lewis Jr. (pictured,) who had stopped his car on the side of the road to remove debris on the highway.

Martin told a friend on Snapcat that he hit and killed “some n----r” and he “f----d up the chevy pretty good,” according to photos of the Snapcat conversation released by KPLC-TV.

He then used an emoji to describe the man's death.

Lewis, 31, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The Washington Post reported it was his birthday.

The crash is under investigation and the police are aware of the Snapchat posts.

The Washington Post reported that police are confident that Martin was the person who wrote the offensive posts on Snapcath.

Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft said the posts were “morally and socially unacceptable” but were not against the law, according to KPLC.

“I am appalled at the content of the social media messages that were posted after the incident. This post is unacceptable and has no place in our society,” Sheriff Craft said, according to KPLC. “The inflammatory words that were used were morally wrong. I have the utmost confidence in the Louisiana State Police and their ability to thoroughly investigate this incident.”

Lewis stopped his own vehicle at about 3:15 p.m. to remove debris that was on the highway.

“What it appears at this point is that this man was trying to do a good deed," Louisiana State Police Sergeant James Anderson told The Daily Mail.

On one Snapchat message, Martin posted a picture of his truck and wrote, “y’all I just hit a whole guy on the highway.”

Later Matthews posted on Snapchat, “i feel bad for the family and all but now i gotta buy a new windshield and a whole bunch of other stuff.”

Worried more about his truck instead of a person he murdered! Nice asshole!!

While this kid is a piece of shit, murder it is not. Appears that it was a traffic accident in which the victim was out of his vehicle on the freeway, one can only hope that the kid who hit him will someday get ass cancer.

It just amazes me the difference in people, one guy trying to do right, and do guys like him a favor by clearing stuff out of the roadway so he doesn't damage his precious 2003 POS, the other - after just having killed a man, regardless of whose fault, brushes the death off by being mad about his damage to his truck.

Absolutely unacceptable. Please make an example of him.

It's a particularly awful reflection on society that the one helping out gets killed and the other cares not about anyone but himself. It's a scary reality that plays out all too often.

Oh my, that boy is going to love Angola! More importantly, the inmates at Angola are going to love him!

Put him in jail.........he left the scene of an accident involving personal injury. Since the victim died, he can be indicted for involuntary manslaughter as well. Not sure what local or state laws he broke.

I say run him over with his own pickup truck.

Wait till he goes to jail and meets one of those brothers in there. He will regret it right quick. Piece of trash is all he is.

@LordSeamus...he did not leave the scene, it was investigated on scene and he was not charged as it was an accident, again the victim was standing in the freeway. While we all disagree with his racist language and posts I doubt he’ll be charged with any crime, freedom of speech and all.

You commenting to me? Justification of manslaughter? Not justifying anything, stating the facts that I have read. Just because someone posts racist shit on social media doesn’t make the traffic accident a criminal offense, if it comes out that they can prove that he swerved to hit the guy then that is a different story, don’t put words in my mouth, but nice try.

What a POS!!!! Who goes on line to talk so nonchalantly about killing someone?? And using that slur on top of it!!! His parents must be so proud. Smdh

It's unfathomable to me how cold and heartless some people some people can be. This murderer should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and the family of Sherell Lewis Jr. should seek damages for the loss of Mr. Lewis's life.

John.Brown

Your very emotional state over an obvious racist POS does not a murderer make. Why don't you let the police finish their investigation?

Thinblueline

BruthaV and what if the fullest extent of the law is that there was no criminal wrongdoing, then what?

Another question, what if the guy who hit the victim would have been black and just texting one of his homies about it?

BruthaV

Contrary to your (John.Brown) statement, I am not "emotional". Implicit in my comment is IF he has committed a crime -- which is why I included "to the fullest extent of the law". If it was simple negligence, then he should be liable for civil damages/punishment.

John.Brown
John.Brown

Why can't you admit that it is possible that it was an accident? Again, your emotional state won't even allow you to except that possibility. You have already made up your mind that the least it could have been was negligence. Again, we must wait for the police to finish their investigation, which will be based on facts, not emotions.

BruthaV
BruthaV

Again, you're reading what you want to read. "IF it was simple negligence..." Now who is the one being "emotional"? And even if it was an "accident", he could still be at fault (legally).

You know who was negligent? The guy who was in the damn road.

@Thinblueline remember this comment the next time a cop gets sideswiped while doing a traffic stop.

See those red and blues, they mean caution and move over. Most cops aren’t running around in traffic, and if they are and get hit it is still most likely an accident. And yes, they would definitely have some negligence.

Thinblueline
Thinblueline

sad thing about red and blues is they are a magnet to drunks, a lot of the time drunks sideswipe cops.

A tragic example of what has become of our society. Condolences to the family of Mr. Lewis may he rest in peace. Sympathy for the parents of Mathew Martin. How awful it must be to have a child like this. He's right up there with the affluenza POS Ethan Couch. May they both rot in hell.

What is wrong with him??? How can you take someone's life then post that crap! Put this pos in the middle of the road and run him over! Thoughts and prayers to the victims family.

The guy was on the hwy and was hit. They said this was at 3:15 p.m. What I can not figure out is how could he not see someone on the road in broad daylight? Maybe texting? Talking on the phone? I looked it up on Google and it is a 4 lane divided hwy in a rural area. He was obviously not paying attention. On top of being a real POS. He will get owned in a civil suit. Hopefully the investigation finds evidence enough to charge him as well.

My condolences to the family of Mr. Martin, may he rest in peace. He was assisting other motorists by removing debris from the road. No good deed goes unpunished as the saying goes. I doubt that the animal with no conscience who hit him has anything of value or the potential to earn much, but I do hope he has to pay for the rest of his life in a civil suit for his callousness over causing this man's death. It is my opinion the deceased was the better man.
