Fairfield, CA – Police are investigating a felony attack on a 61-year-old man at a skate park on Tuesday.
“Fifteen or 20 kids roll up on him,” Leo described the scene he encountered. “They’re calling him the N-word and stuff like that. They were going to beat him up, obviously.”
He said he approached the group and tried to intervene on behalf of the victim, and the group turned and went after Leo himself.
“What are you doing here old man? Get out of here old man, it’s none of your business,” Leo claimed a teen said to him before he was attacked.
The teenagers punched Leo and knocked him to the ground before they began kicking him repeatedly, KOVR reported.
Leo had to be taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. Additionally, doctors had to wire his jaw shut for it to heal properly.
“They’re just looking for trouble,” Leo told KOVR.
“It’s such a thing in society now, where they’re just running around rampant, nothing to do,” he said.
Leo said he was a victim of bullying when he was a kid, and he couldn’t stand by and another kid be bullied, KOVR reported. He said that he’d taken his own children and grandchildren to that skate park for years and he couldn’t just ignore what was happening.
His daughter was furious a group of teenagers would beat up an older man in such a way, and said she was proud of her father for standing up for the boy who was being bullied.
“If you’re going do this to somebody that’s walking with a cane, an older gentleman, can you only imagine what they could potentially do to the boy he was sticking up for?” Angel Blood asked.
She said she wanted to see her father’s attackers caught and prosecuted.
“These kids need to be held accountable for what they have done,” Blood told KOVR. “You just put somebody in the hospital because you decided to be a disgusting bully.”
Police were searching for four teenage boys believed to have been involved in the attack on Leo.
