Pike Creek, Delaware - Police responded to 911 call from an off-duty female Delaware state trooper on Sunday. The trooper was found "severely battered" and her abuser was found with a gunshot wound to his chest.

The suspect, Maurice Ifill, 43, was transported to the hospital where he died of acute lead poisoning.

The 8-year veteran of the Delaware State Police was so severely battered that she needed to be hospitalized, according to NBC10. Thankfully, her two children weren't home at the time.

Even though this appears to be a clear case of self-defense, investigators stayed through the night to process the scene.

It's unclear if the couple had a history of domestic violence, although Maurice Ifill's criminal history shows a history of violence. No charges are expected to be filed in the shooting, which is a clear-cut case of self-defense

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured Delaware state trooper. Get well soon.
