Man Plants Bomb Under Police Vehicle, Leads Officers On Chase
Lynnwood, WA – A suspect set up an explosive device beneath a Lynnwood Police Department (LPD) patrol truck and attempted to detonate it before leading officers on a pursuit on Sunday night.
The incident began in the LPD parking lot sometime before 11:30 p.m., when the unnamed suspect was spotted placing a “suspicious device” under an officer’s parked patrol pickup, the LPD said in a Facebook post.
The suspect got into a vehicle and took off from the scene, but an LPD sergeant managed to keep him in sight and chased after him.
The sergeant ultimately used a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver to take the fleeing suspect into custody, according to police.
The Washington State Patrol dispatched bomb technicians to the scene to handle the suspected bomb.
“Washington State Patrol bomb techs have investigated the device,” the LPD said in an update just before midnight. “It appears there was an attempted detonation but nothing hazardous was located.”
The department thanked the community for their concern, and noted that none of the officers were injured during the incident.
The identity of the suspect was released in the police department's Facebook post.
It is unclear whether anyone has been charged in connection with the attempted attack.
Investigators have not provided any details regarding a potential motive.
