LSU Basketball Star Shot Dead In Street Fight, Arrest Made From DNA

Baton Rouge, LA – A Louisiana State University basketball player was shot and killed early Friday morning.

Wayde Sims, a 20-year-old, 6-foot-6 junior forward, was shot near a Subway restaurant that was next to the Southern University’s football stadium at about 1:25 a.m., according to ESPN.

The Advocate reported that Sims was shot after a fight broke out, according to Baton Rouge Police Sergeant L’Jean McKneely.

Sims was taken to the local hospital and died from a gunshot wound, according to the Baton Rouge police.

During the fight, suspected gunman Dyteon Simpson dropped his glasses. DNA from the glasses linked Simpson to the killing.

Upon questioning, Simpson confessed to the murder, according to police.

Southern University’s campus was on lockdown after the shooting, according to WAFB.

The Subway restaurant was closed at the time of the shooting, according to The Advocate. By 7 a.m., the crime scene was cleared.

The Advocate also posted a video released by the police it stated came from a witness of the shooting. The video showed a group of men fighting in the street until a shot is fired.

"We are all devastated," said LSU coach Will Wade, according to ESPN. "We need your prayers for Wayde, for his family, for all of us. We are heartbroken.”

Wade said he and his staff met with the players at 6:30 a.m. Friday, according to The Advocate. Wade he said he spent the majority of the morning at the hospital with Sims' parents. LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva called it "the saddest day of my career," according to The Advocate.

Sims played 32 games last season when he averaged 6.5 points a game. He was the 2014-15 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year.

I wonder if his parents will sue him for their lottery because of lost income from their would be future NBA player son!! More blacks are shot and/or killed by other blacks for senseless reasons!! Dozens and dozens every week in this country but oh it's police that are killing completely innocent law abiding blacks that's the problem, right??
