Lincoln Park, MI - A woman 'sucker-punched' Lincoln Park Police Officer Patrick Culter during a traffic stop claiming she didn't realize he was a police officer (video below.)
According to ClickonDetroit, Officer Culter had stopped the vehicle that the suspect, Kristen Campbell, was a passenger in, after finding out that the driver didn't have a license. Campbell became 'mouthy' with Officer Culter when he began arresting the driver.
In the officer's dashcam video, he can be heard telling Campbell, "I'm tired of your mouth Get the f out of here before I arrest you for the s you threw out the window for littering. Get out now or you can go to [jail] with her."
In response, Campbell said "You stepped on my (expletive) foot," and Officer Culter said "You know what? Forget it." That's when Campbell sucker punched the officer in the face.
He then ordered Campbell to the ground, but she resisted. Officer Culter lost his handcuffs during the struggle, but a bystander threw them to him.
Campbell is then heard saying "You like hitting people, don't you?" Officer Culter said "Let go of my handcuffs now. Take your hands off them." Campbell apparently continued to resist, and the officer 'stunned her with a taser three times'.
She then assaulted Officer Culter, and said she "threw the punch because she didn't know who grabbed her from behind."
Campbell then said on video, "I swung back, knowing he grabbed me, because he didn't say anything. I didn't know who it was."
Click on Detroit reporter, Jermont Terry, said to Campbell, "But he was in full uniform. How did you not know?"
Her response? "That's true. I didn't see who was behind me, honestly."
Officer Culter is back at work, complete with black eye. He said, "She started running her mouth, and I told her she's going to jail. I go to grab her hands and she turned around and got me with those rings."
Campbell said that she "realizes now she made a mistake". She said "I'm lucky to be alive. I guess the cop could have killed me."
