Ontario, CA - The 16-year-old boy who was captured on video launching a kitten into the air, and throwing it into the street, has been arrested.
Footage of the incident was posted to Twitter on Saturday, Dec. 2, and showed the kitten being swung and thrown high into the air by the teenager.
The video sparked immediate outrage from people across the country.
They said police were notified of the video early Saturday morning, and officers immediately started investigating. Police identified the suspect later that afternoon.
Police worked leads, and located the suspect on foot, at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday, the statement read.
Ontario police officers spotted the suspect near 7th Street and Berlyn Ave in the City of Upland.
The suspect ran when he saw the police, but officers quickly tackled him, and took him into custody.
Police said the arrestee is a 16-year-old juvenile resident of Ontario. His name is being withheld because of his age.
The kitten, described as "small" by police, suffered a fractured leg and is recovering at an Inland Empire animal hospital.
The kitten’s name is “Spots,” his owner said. She said she was unable to watch the graphic video, which lasts about 10 seconds.
She said the kitten was a stray when she found it.
