Kansas City Coffee Company Owner Bashes Cops After Traffic Stop

OfficerBlue

A straightforward traffic stop turned into cop-bashing when Roasterie owner Danny O'Neill took to social media.

Fairway, KS - A local businessman took to social media to lob insults at law enforcement after an officer ticketed him.

Roasterie owner Danny O'Neill posted that he was stopped in his Tesla Model S luxury car which had tags that expired in December.

He says that he received a ticket for the violation and posted the picture online.

After the stop, O'Neill posted to Instagram calling the officer "Barney Fife," after the comically inept police officer from the Andy Griffith show.

He then referred to the other Fairway police offices as "Barnie's."

Rather than take responsibility for going months without paying for his vehicle registration, he suggested that the police were just out there to make money.

In a post on Instagram, O'Neill said (emojis removed):

"Citizens of Fairway!!! Know that you are safe...even safer today after this violation. Officer Barney Fife dutifully chased us through traffic...it was a pretty, sunny day; we saw him weaving in and out of traffic, lights blazing, and were wondering what criminals they were after. Well, surprise of all surprises...Barney was chasing US! Lights and guns a-blazing...we had an expired tag! Who knew? But wowza was he prepared! $133! At several dinner parties over the years the Fairway police have come up...similar circumstances...Cat in tree, expired plates, license plate light out...and of course total laughter at the overreaction of the Barnie’s. We have a lot of friends in Fairway and just want to let each of you know, you are safer as a result of forcing this Brookside deadbeat in to get an updated tag. I was crazy...I should have been locked up and the key thrown away! Not sure he could have towed the Tesla but ka-ching...I’ll bet he would have figured it out$! "

After Blue Lives Matter contacted a Roasterie spokesperson about O'Neill's post, he deleted the post from social media.

O'Neill now says that he has accepted responsibility for his violation and expressed his regret for making the post.

O'Neill said in a written statement to Blue Lives Matter, "I want to express my sincere apology for the post. The Fairway police officer was doing his job—my tags were expired and I deserved a violation. The post does not reflect my support and respect for police officers and the invaluable jobs they do in Kansas City and across the country to keep our communities safe. Many of my friends are members of the Kansas City Police Department and other area police departments. My business offers discounts to area police officers. The Kansas City Police Department will collaborate with my business on a motorcycle safety rodeo later this year. Last summer I made a solo 8,000-mile motorcycle ride to the Arctic Circle to raise more than $25,000 for a KC charity to purchase adaptive bikes for kids—my journey was safe, thanks in large part to police officer friends I consulted with prior to the trip and officers I met along the way."

Do you think that O'Neill's social media post was a mistake made in a moment of frustration? Or do you think it shows his real attitude towards police? We'd like to hear from you. Please let us know in the comments.

He showed his true colors when he posted that shit in the first place. All this other crap is just because he got called out on it. I'd ban his place anyway!

Everybody makes mistakes, especially when caught after neglecting a simple yearly update. Maybe look at some of YOUR old posts. (I did, and found more than a few that I wish I hadn't posted...after responding to what I saw as butthurt posts from others.) YOU never know what someone else is going through...cut them some slack when responding. You know the old saying...people in glass houses....

The best line in his post is "At several dinner parties over the years the Fairway police have come up...similar circumstances...and of course total laughter at the overreaction of the Barnie’s." Zinger! For context, Brookside is the place in KC where two types of people live: Entitled, self-important, middle-aged white people who LOVE to smell each others farts and chit-chat about the top-notes and, the elderly. If this rubber dick has any idea how much of a cheeseball people think he really is, he'll make another solo ride. This time into traffic.. Nice espresso mug... SMH, this Brookside softy with his tesla and hairplugs wants to cover his REAL feelings by providing a list ABOUT HIMSELF after all that! Is anything not about this guy? Anyways, the Roasterie stopped being relevant after Thou Mayest showed up.

See you at the Rodeo!

I'd bet his feelings were hurt because he has given police officers discounts in hopes of getting that get out of jail free card. When that didn't happen and he got the ticket his true feelings came out. I've dealt with assholes like him over the years. They befriend the police for their own benefit and nothing more.

He is a low life who thinks he is above the law and that his place in society it far superior to the place police officers are in the social pecking order. He just proved that he is a lowlife pos who happens to have money. Oh and his “charity” ride was a front to right of the expenses of this vacation. Lowlife scum.

Shame on you Danny O’Neill. The women and men in blue take an oath to protect our community, You’re not that important. It’s pretty evident by your response. I have been a customer of yours and now I’m not. Your apology isn’t good enough for me.

I'm married to a law enforcement officer and I'm certain he's run into people like this elitist dufus yet, like our Incredible men and women in blue, would protect him like he would any other citizen... even with his life. As for me.... I wouldn't darken this elitist's place of business for any amount of money.

Well... if the cop is a "Barney Fife" then O'Neill would be an Al Bundy.

My years as a "COP", 3 months expired tag was an arrestable offense. Now you know why they have it on the books for "PRICKS" like this. I hope they boycott your restaurant and you go out of business. Supporting the Men and Women in Blue is a full time job. Sorry you own a business, seem to be pretty smart and you didn't realize your tag was expired. More then likely your tag renews on someone's birthday, the states did this so you would remember when your renewal is due. This is who we deal with everyday, from the poor, to the middle class, to the rich. Just follow the laws put in place and be cordial. In most cases we learn as "COPS", if the person is complaining loudly and you believe they are going to complain. Make sure you give them a ticket, it is much harder to try and explain why? you stopped someone and they didn't receive a ticket. In most cases it was because the Officer was trying to be nice, only to be disciplined for a lawful stop where they did not issue a ticket.

I sure hope his "Cop" friends will have a change of heart after this and look for new and better friends.

As a successful businessman of many years, I am embarrassed by the conduct of Danny O'Neill. One would expect a man of his stature in the community to behave like a responsible adult. I love Danny's coffee, but I am through drinking it. Apparently, he thinks that being a bean baron allows him entitlement above the law.

Rich snowflake thinks only the little people should have to pay their vehicle registration. Rich snowflake had a temper tantrum and now needs a safe place.

If this boy can afford a Tesla, he should be able to register his car. It's a shame that "Barney" didn't tow it. I would have.

I totally agree! A lot of unforgiveness here. I would ask all these haters here: have you never said something in anger that you later realized was wrong when you cooled off? If people CONTINUE being a dick, then they reveal their true colors. But if they admit and apologize, they show integrity. Everyone makes mistakes, but it takes courage to own up to it.

No one is above the law. I used to take people to the Roasterie and buy their coffee at Hy-Vee...apology or not, I won't be doing that anymore. This is his normal attitude - you can tell by the way he points out in his post that he drives a Tesla. That wasn't necessary - he could have just said "his car" but he wanted everyone to know how "rich and important" he is in his own eyes. :::::insert eye roll:::::

Screw this arrogant, self important POS. I will not be doing business with this asshat's company any longer. Too bad, I liked the coffee.

The fact that this was his initial on line reaction to the ticket speaks volumes to his character, or lack thereof. His post should have been about him forgetting for months to renew his tags and getting a gentle $133.00 reminder, not bashing the Fairway PD.

Typical narcissist lacking emotional maturity with a self inflated sense of self worth. Merely mentioning his vehicle type was indicative of his own self insecurities by using materialistic components to prove his superiority. I support our local businesses’s but will take my business and love for coffee elsewhere. Awful leadership

Please don't insult Al Bundy like that. Besides, everybody knows Al drove a Dodge. The coffee guy is more like a Kim Kardashian or a Michael Moore.

Of course everybody makes mistakes and says things they later regret. This case is different though, because Danny also said this is a general stereotype that he has believed and perpetuated for a long time. "At several dinner parties over the years the Fairway police have come up...similar circumstances...Cat in tree, expired plates, license plate light out...and of course total laughter at the overreaction of the Barnie’s." That statement, and the rest of his post, makes it clear that he does not respect LEO in general, stereotypes all cops as "Barnies", does not appreciate their service, thinks he is smarter and better than LEO, and commonly associates with others who do not respect LEO.

To answer your question, neither. I think O'Neill's response is a common response in today's society. People refuse to take responsibility for their actions. They race to social media to tell their overly dramatized version of the story. (Barney was chasing US! Lights and guns a-blazing...) We all know the officer fired no shots at the car, so his guns were not a-blazing. Thus O'Neill lied and spun the story in hopes that the people of social media would come to his aid. He hoped people would flood the police station with hate, threats, and protest until the officer lost his job and he was excused for his violation of the law. However, people didn't side with him. More so, he was called out by Blue Lives Matter. His lies were exposed. His hate was exposed. And no one came to his side. Now, he was forced to accept responsibility for his wrongs.

I want to see how much his bashing of the People of this country that risk their live everyday to keep us safe effects his wallet..He might have a real reason in December this year on why he has to wait three months to tag his Tesla. Really you can't tag your car what a joke.. That so called Barney Fife Office might just have to save your life one day. Will you disrespect them then? Blue Lives Matter Always have and always will..

If you want to find out what kind of person he really is, read the reviews that his current and former employees have written at glassdoor. Apparently he is usually a condescending, rude, arrogant person who belittles anybody who crosses him.

I pay my taxes, you pay yours too. I’m married to a police officer. Their jobs are difficult to say the least and this kind of rhetoric doesn’t help. Pay your taxes and don’t break the law and you will never encounter the police. As for this coffee shop, I’ve taken tons of business to it. Not anymore. Pay for your Tesla without my contribution.

Same old story unfortunately. Just like what was already mentioned that they criticize the police at their dinners. He must feel like the police has one job to catch the most major criminals and ignore everything else. Strange though, Mr. O'Neill is the amount of criminals that are actually caught for traffic stops like yours. He's trying to save face now.
