Trenton, NJ - A gunfight with police has left at least one person dead and two officers injured, with the suspect currently barricaded.
At around 6:20 AM on Wednesday, officers with the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ task force attempted to serve a warrant in the 300 block of Centre Street. The task force entered the house and came under gunfire.
Officers retreated while returning fire and the suspect fled back inside and is still barricaded in the building.
During the gunfight, a man outside was fatally shot and two Mercer County Sheriff's Officers were injured. Bother officers were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
It's not clear at this time if the man who was killed was a bystander or otherwise involved. After the report that a bystander may have been killed, 50 bystanders have started to congregate at the edge of the scene.
"Special operations officers are currently attempting to negotiate with the suspect ... and we will stay until it comes to its conclusion," Lt. Stephen Varn said, according to NJ.com.
No announcement has been made about the identity of the suspect or what they were wanted for.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved as the law enforcement officers work to bring this violent suspect into custody.
