St. John's County, FL - A Florida homeowner is being told that she must take down her American Blue Line Flag because somebody claimed that it was racist.
Beth Rousseau with Action News Jax took the time to investigate the issue. Rosseau spoke with Jeff Gaddie, the father of the homeowner, who said that his daughter received a letter telling her that she must remove the flag.
"She called to ask why," Gaddie said. "They told her they had received a complaint that it was considered racist, offensive and anti-black lives matter.”
She was told that she had to submit a request to fly the flag, so she did; that request was subsequently denied.
The family is planning to appeal the decision at the next homeowners association meeting, but there't no telling what their chances of success will be. They want to let the neighborhood know that the flag is just a show of support for law enforcement, and it's in no way racist.
“We’ve got black officers, we’ve got Asian officers, we’re got every race," Gaddie said. "I mean for them to say it’s racist, blue is not a race, it’s the furthest thing from it.”
Beth Rosseau contacted the homeowners association who simply claimed that only American flags and military flags were allowed to be flown. While Rosseau was in the area, she saw other prohibited flags being flown without take-down notices.
Jeff Gaddie nailed it. The flag is simply a symbol of support for American law enforcement. To claim that the flag is racist is suggesting that all police officers are racist. Only fools think that way, and the homeowners association shouldn't be catering to fools.
Do you think that homeowners associations should be able to dictate what flags people fly on their private property? We'd like to hear what you think. Please let us know in the comments.
