High School Teacher Selects Student's Anti-Police Project For Art Fair

The anti-police "artwork" was displayed inside the Madeira municipal building on Sunday.

Madeira, OH – A Madeira High School student’s anti-police “artwork” was on display inside the city’s municipal building lobby during an annual art fair on Sunday.

The display was part of the Madeira Women’s Club Art Fair, a popular annual community event that has been taking place the first Sunday in May for over 50 years, Madeira Police Lieutenant Paul Phillips told Blue Lives Matter on Monday.

The art fair was comprised of pieces created by Madeira City School district students, and were selected by the students’ art teachers.

But one of the items on display drew immediate criticism for its blatantly anti-police message.

“Our department was made aware that one of the art projects depicts a pig dressed in a police uniform,” the Madeira Police Department said in a press release on Sunday. “In the background is a collage of news articles referencing interactions where police officers have used deadly force in the course of their duties.”

The project was ultimately removed from the display by the school and the Madeira Women’s Club, Lt. Phillips told Blue Lives Matter.

The school leaders were unaware that the project was a part of the art fair, because the art teachers were responsible for selecting which projects would be put on display, he said.

“The members of the Madeira Police Department fully respect and support the student’s right to free speech, and recognize that this young artist is very talented,” the MPD said in the press release. “However, officers are troubled by the perceived message of the student’s art project.”

The department said the school district is also aware of the anti-police artwork.

“The Madeira Police Department enjoys a strong and supportive relationship with the community it serves, which includes Madeira City Schools,” the MPD said. “Our department has already been in contact with the leadership at Madeira City Schools and is working cooperatively to address any concerns the community may have while respecting the student’s right to fair speech.”

Madeira High School Principal David Kennedy, Madeira City Schools Superintendent Kenji Matsudo, and the Madeira Women’s Club have not returned Blue Lives Matter’s request for comment.

The art teacher and the principal ought to be suspended for allowing that in the first place. Can you imagine that happening ten or fifteen years ago?

I can't wait to see the reaction when someone finally creates 'artwork" depicting a black man shooting another black man with the title "What X% of crime in the USA?" Simply vile hypocrites.

It’s not like the kid made up the facts he used in his artwork. I guess if he used k9 puppies in a collage next time, the cops wouldn’t cry.

By the way, stop the brutality and you will not make the newspaper headlines.

Just to be on the safe side...can we do a mental illness check on this student artist? Maybe the "feelings enlightened" are harbingers of a brain that will be "frighting back" soon...now THAT is scary!

The teacher that promoted this rediculous peace of "art" should be fired. Immediately! And the child that made it needs some serious counseling.

If criminals quit teaching their children to be like themselves there will be more respect for law enforcement.

Terminate the teacher, suspend the teacher's supervisor for failing to supervise the teacher's actions, and send the student into the police academy, so this talented angel can see what cops have to go through.

The student is entitled to free speech and freedom of expression, but there are consequences to said speech and expression.

to the general readers on this site:

You have an element on this site ( Whoppersallthetime, LOW_EST IQ, ManBearPigsinablanket,Tfart) who state their own responses with an intentionally inflammatory anti LEO, anti white, pro black no matter the circumstances slant .Realize that they are intentionally antagonistic and pride themselves on "pushing buttons" . Trying to have a rational dialogue with an irrational person will go nowhere and you will do nothing to convince them otherwise. They have an agenda to somehow (in their minds) "stand up to whitey" and /or "stand up to LEO /law" and just to try to cause discord . Know up front the juvenile maturity level and low intellect you are dealing with before you waste your time further. Ignoring them will be the best reaction.

All flags matter too. But only if you know the flag code.

The Madeira School District has stifled, belittled, and have denied this student to the little freedom student actually receive anymore when it comes to their self expression in the education process. This child may never do anything else to show their emotions towards any subject again. Students are denied art and music programs all over the nation so schools can focus on standardized testing. Might as well call the principals and superintendents dictators. This student did nothing wrong...firemen are referred to as smoke-eaters. What if this student made a Collage using rappers and video games being the source for all gun violence and crime. That would be a complete lie. But this art work basically states that the police are responsible for all police brutality and wrong doings of the police. Oh wait they are responsible because the police did these things. Most police are great hard working people, but those that are not need to be held accountable for their crimes against the people they are here to PROTECT AND SERVE!!!
