Fort Worth, Texas - Fort Worth Police Officer Michael Valdez was killed in an off-duty motorcycle collision along with his wife early Friday morning.
Not many specific details about the collision have been released as of Friday afternoon.
What we do know is that Officer Michael Valdez, 44, was killed on scene from injuries sustained in the collision at 2:17 AM in the 3300 block of Trail Drive.
His wife, Mary Valdez, 39, was transported to the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital where she died of her injuries.
Michael and Mary Valdez leave behind their 15-year old daughter.
Officer Valdez's LinkedIn profile said that he was last assigned to the criminal intelligence unit in the Fort Worth Police Department where he had worked since 2001. He was also a gang expert at the Tarrant County district attorney's office and a task force officer for the Department of Homeland Security. Before that, he was a deputy for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
Officer Valdez had also served our country as a petty officer in the U.S. Navy before starting his career in law enforcement.
No announcements have been made yet about a memorial service.
It's always hard to lose an officer, but it's an almost unimaginable loss for their child to lose both parents in the same incident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the daughter of this fallen hero and his wife, and with the Forth Worth Police Department.
Rest easy hero, we'll hold the line from here.
