Micaville, NC - North Carolina State Trooper Brandon Peterson died unexpectedly Friday morning, April 7, of a suspected heart attack.
Trooper Peterson was assigned to Highway Patrol Troop G, which covers Yancey, Mitchell, Avery and Madison counties.
According to WTOE, he was honored in March, 2017 as Highway Patrolman of the Year by North Carolina Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
District Attorney for the 24th District, Seth Burns, said at the time he was honored, "Trooper Peterson exhibits the highest virtues of professionalism to which someone in law enforcement or public service can aspire. This is a well deserved honor, and a testament to his hard work and dedication."
He was involved in churches, schools, and civic organizations helping educate youth about the poor choices of drinking and driving. Trooper Peterson is survived by his wife Ella and three-year-old daughter LeighAnna.
