Norfolk, VA - Norfolk Police Officer Alonzo "Lonnie" Burroughs died Wednesday, at Duke University Hospital, after a hard-fought battle with Melanoma.
According to WTKR, Officer Alondo Burroughs was first diagnosed in October, 2012. He was born in 1976 and was a Marine veteran.
On its Facebook page, the Norfolk Police Department said:
“Lonnie was a United States Marine, whose heart for his community, this department, and our country, was as big as his infectious smile.
His footprint is forever imprinted on our department and we will continue his service, with honor and integrity.”
The Virginian Pilot posted an obituary which said, his love of life and zeal for helping those he loved was his driving force in his long and debilitating battle. He is survived by his mother, Janice Alexander, brother, Jason Burroughs, sister, Amber Dixon, brother in law Keith Dixon, sister in law Kelly Burroughs, nephews, Trenton and Grayden Dixon and Brendan Burroughs and niece Abigail Bennett.
