Prewitt, NM - Navajo Nation Police Officer Houston Largo has died after being shot on Saturday night.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Officer Largo was shot about 11:00 PM after responding to a domestic violence call in Casamero Lake. He was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital where he died about 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Officer Largo was 27-years-old and had five years of service.
A suspect is reported to be in custody at the Eastern Navajo Diné Justice Center, according to the Navajo Times. His name has not been released. The FBI and Navajo Nation are conducting the investigation. The New Mexico State Police and the McKinley County Sheriff's Office are assisting in the investigation.
No further details have been released. Russell Begaye, Navajo Nation President, said that he's "praying for the officer and family." He also said "our officers put themselves in highly volatile situations everyday in addressing domestic violence situations."
New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez has called to offer assistance in the case.
