Mobile, AL - Mobile Police Sergeant Jeremy Franks, age 41, was killed in a single-vehicle traffic crash on Thursday, October 19.
He was off-duty at the time.
Mobile Police Department Chief Lawrence Battiste said, "I knew Franks about 2 and a half years ago. When he walks in the room, he lights up the room. His attitude was always positive. He was always upbeat. He brought joy to everybody he came in contact with."
He said, "It has been a tough morning. We brought our Chaplain Corey in for the officers to debrief and decompress. And we are working with officers to make sure they grieve in their own way."
Sgt. Franks worked on technology initiatives to move the MPD forward with its patrol in the community.
"He made sure that his unit understood that we were in a new era of policing and he conducted that, united and guided them in that way," according to Chief Battiste.
In a Facebook post, the Mobile Police Department said:
"The Mobile Police Department is mourning the loss of Sergeant Jeremy Franks, who lost his life in a single vehicle accident on Tanner Williams Road early this morning. Franks served 19 years as a Mobile police officer. To his family, we ask the community to please send their prayers."
