Laredo, TX - Laredo ISD Police Lieutenant David Medina was found dead Tuesday afternoon at a police shooting range.
A U.S. Border Patrol Agent discovered Lieutenant Medina's body about 3:30 PM at a Laredo shooting range off U.S. 59 that is used by law enforcement, according to Dallas News.
He had a single gunshot wound to the chest. Police have said that they are not searching for suspects. Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar said late Wednesday, February 23, 2017, that Lieutenant Medina's gunshot wound was self-inflicted, according to LMT Online. This finding was determined during a preliminary investigation by the Webb County Medical Examiner's Office.
Laredo ISD officials have said that they are heartbroken and that Lieutenant Medina was loved by many.
Laredo ISD Police Lieutenant Medina was a 13-year veteran of the Laredo School District Police Force and was second in command. The Webb County Sheriff's Department is conducting the investigation. No other details have been released about the incident.
