Gatesville, TX - Corrections Officer Shana Tedder, age 41, died of a "medical incident" at the women's prison in Gatesville on Friday, June 9.
According to KWTX, Officer Tedder died of a possible heart attack after a use of force incident with an inmate. A Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman said that after the incident, Officer Tedder said that she had shortness of breath, then walked to another area of the prison to rest, where she collapsed.
Prison staff immediately began life-saving measures, and called 911. Paramedics responded, but were unable to revive Officer Tedder.
She was pronounced dead at 3:22 PM at the Christina Melton Crain unit, according to the TDCJ spokesman.
In a statement, Jason Clark, director of public information for the TDCJ, said, “Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult time."
Officer Tedder was a 12-year veteran of the TDCJ.
