Hampton, VA - Hampton University has fired nine police officers for what they say are “misogynistic, racist and other offensive remarks” made on social media.
The department only had 25 sworn officers before the firing spree, according to the department website.
In a statement released Thursday evening, the department said, "The university terminated 9 officers from its Police Department (HUPD) for egregious violations of the university's code of conduct. After a full investigation, it was determined that the officers shared misogynistic, racist, and other offensive remarks via social media. The university has a zero tolerance for such behavior."
The details of the social media posts have not yet been released, so it's unknown how egregious the social media posts actually were.
It's not clear if the officers were fired by overzealous administrators looking for any post which could possibly be perceived to be offensive, or if the police department's administrators are exceptionally incompetent at hiring officers who aren't misogynistic racists.
