Los Angeles, CA - Bodycam and surveillance footage captured the moment that a gunman ambushed a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer who was pursuing another suspect (video below).
The shooting occurred on April 20 at 9:20 p.m., according to ABC News.
Two LAPD Gang Enforcement Division officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle which rolled through a stop sign.
The vehicle took off and led the officers on a short pursuit before the driver jumped out of the car with a gun and ran into the Pueblo Del Rio public housing project.
As the officers split up to chase the driver, another gunman charged Officer Enrique Trujillo and shot him at point blank range.
The officer immediately returned fire ans shot the gunman until he collapsed in a pool of blood.
Officer Trujillo was shot in the leg during the gunfight and was rushed to the hospital in a patrol car. He survived his wounds and is now recovering at home.
The gunman, later identified as 39-year-old Curley Lee Duff, was transported to the hospital where he also survived his injuries.
Duff has an extensive criminal history and is being charged with attempted murder of a police officer. He is being held on $2.095 million bail, according to KTLA.
LAPD did not state if the driver who initiated the pursuit was ever captured or identified.
