Fur Missile Found With Stab Wounds After Disappearing On Track

Mississippi K9 Officer Loco was stabbed while chasing a suspect through the woods but is expected to fully recover

Bay St. Louis, MS – Hancock County Sheriff Department K9 Officer Loco was stabbed while chasing a suspect through the woods on Tuesday afternoon but will recover from the wounds.

The incident started at about 2 p.m. when a sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a vehicle on the highway.

The suspect, identified as Jeremy Mitchell, refused to stop at first.

The suspect finally stopped shortly after he got onto the highway.

After the vehicle stopped, Mitchell jumped out and ran into a wooded swampy area, according to WLOX.

The deputy called for backup and then they pursued the suspect. K9 Loco was then led police though the wetlands to Mitchell, WLOX reported.

Police told the Mitchell numerous times that if he didn’t surrender, they would release K9 Loco. Instead, Mitchell ran away deeper into the woods, WLOX reported.

K9 Loco’s handler released the dog and then lost sight of both the K9 and Mitchell.

Loco’s handler kept calling command for the dog but the K9 didn’t respond, according to WLOX.

Several deputies then went into the woods to locate the K9 and Mitchell.

As they were searching, deputies saw the suspect run across the highway into another wooded area, where they captured him, but they were unable to locate Loco.

A citizen found the dog at about 4:30 p.m. with stab wounds to his abdomen.

K9 Loco was rushed to a veterinarian and went right into surgery, WLOX reported.

Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located in the suspect's car, resulting in additional charges to the vehicle's passengers, WLOX reported.

Mitchell was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, felony eluding, and multiple traffic violations, according to WLOX.

Police said K9 Loco is expected to make a full recovery.

Anyone who would attack an enforcement officer should be jailed. It does not matter if it is a dog; but some people believe no life matters and that a dog is only a dog. These dogs are trained to enforce the law the same as any man or woman. The difference is that the dog will give his or her life to protect their companion without any understanding of the danger. My brother was in law enforcement and one of his jobs was to care for the canine officer sometimes. He knew that the dog in his care had enemies humans do not have since the dog was used in drug raids also; there are those people who would kill a canine police officer just to keep their drug stash safe. It is a blessing to the public that dogs are used in police enforcement; they have saved many lives.

I agree with C911 that Officer had to be a mess until Loco was found. So glad to hear he will be okay 🙏🏼💙🐾

Applying the law equally, this "gentlemen" should be charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
