Los Angeles, CA - Former Power Rangers actor Ricardo Medina, age 38, pleaded guilty on Thursday to killing his roommate with a sword.
According to Fox News, Medina entered the plea to one count of Manslaughter in Los Angeles County Superior Court. He is facing a six-year prison sentence.
Medina was initially charged with Murder after he stabbed his roommate Joshua Sutter in the abdomen two years ago at their residence in Green Valley. The stabbing occurred after an argument about Medina's girlfriend and how she parked her car.
The argument continued and became violent, according to the Los Angeles Times. Sutter forced his way into Medina's room and Medina grabbed a sword that he kept by his door. Sutter was stabbed multiple times before Medina called 911. He initially claimed self-defense.
Sutter's abdominal wound was fatal but he also sustained sharp force injuries, including what is consistent with defensive wounds to his hands.
In 2002, Medina played the Red Lion Wild Force Ranger in the children's show "Power Rangers Wild Force," and in 2011 and 2012, he was the voice of the villain Deker on "Power Rangers Samurai".
Sutter had initially moved to California to help his sister with her dog rescue. Medina was hired to help care for the dogs but began acting erratically shortly after he began working there, according to Sutter's sister.
It's not clear if substance abuse or mental illness played into the incident, but 6 years for stabbing your roommate to death is a joke of a sentence.
Do you think he Sutter should have received a harsher sentence? We'd like to know what you think. Please let us know in the comments below.
