Female Sergeant Critical After Man She Was Trying To Help Starts Stabbing Her

A man who told 911 he'd been abducted stabbed a female police sergeant multiple times on Monday morning.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - A female police sergeant was stabbed twice in a Hobby Lobby parking lot on Monday morning, by a man who called police and said he’d been abducted.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Kimberly Watkins, a 26-year veteran of the department, responded to a call for help from a man who called 911, making “incoherent statements,” according to a press release posted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

"Our dispatch center received a 911 call from the subject who claimed he had been abducted and making other statements that didn't seem to be making sense," San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon told KABC.

Sgt. Watkins arrived on the scene and found 22-year-old Kenneth Elijah Perry standing near his vehicle in the parking lot of the Hobby Lobby, on E. Foothill Blvd., near Haven Ave.

She made contact with him, and almost immediately, Perry became combative, police said.

He produced a knife, and attacked Sgt. Watkins, stabbing at her multiple times, police said.

The sergeant received several lacerations before she was able to draw her weapon.

She fired her gun several times at her assailant, and then held him at gunpoint until backup arrived.

Sgt. Watkins was airlifted to Loma Linda University Hospital, according to the Daily Bulletin.

Police said “she is in critical but stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.”

Jonathan Schultz was in the Hobby Lobby parking lot repairing light fixtures when the veteran officer was attacked.

He told reporters he heard a gunshot, and then saw the suspect struggling with Sgt. Watkins.

“Apparently he got her twice, once in the head and once in the shoulder,” Schultz said.

Schultz said that Sgt. Watkins fired her weapon three times total.

Perry was arrested at the scene with a graze wound to his upper thigh, police said.

The Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Detail is investigating.

Perry is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in lieu of a $1,000,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear Wednesday at Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court.

We need to bring back the insane asylums.

Execute it.

Sgt. Watkins, thank you for your service. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We wish you a speedy recovery. I hope that the depraved man who hurt you does not see the outside of a jail cell.

Assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer is not even considered a violent crime in California anymore. Thanks Jerry Brown, you asshat! Prayers for a complete recovery Kim!

Just another example that they need to have 2 man/woman police cars out patrolling. This might not have happened had there been.... I hope she recovers quickly with no residual effects of the stabbing. How sad this country is....
