Ex-Teacher Who Sexually Abused 14-Year-Old Student Must Register As Sex Offender

Ohio teacher Jessica Langford was convicted and sentenced to a year in prison for sexually abusing a student.

Miamisburg, OH – A former Ohio teacher was released from prison after serving one year for sexually abusing a 14-year-old middle school boy on the last day of school.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction released 33-year-old Jessica Langford from the Ohio Reformatory for Women on May 28, the Dayton Daily News reported.

Langford, a married mother, was a math teacher at Miamisburg Middle School for nine years before she resigned her position in May of 2017 amid allegations of she had sexually abused an eighth-grade student, the Daily Mail reported.

Court documents said that Langford performed oral sex acts on the student on two occasions, and that the student performed sex acts on Langford on two occasions.

Langford also had sexual intercourse with the victim on the last day of school, police said.

The boy told another teacher about the incidents, and the teacher then reported the alleged assaults to school administrators.

School district officials confronted Langford on May 24 – just one day after the alleged offenses took place –and told her that she was being placed on administrative leave.

“We did our own little, quick investigation at that point,” Miamisburg Superintendent Dr. David Vail told FOX News.

Langford, who had been married for seven years and had a four-year-old daughter at the time of the incident, resigned her teaching position on the same day.

She was charged with three counts of sexual battery and three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor on Nov. 14, 2017 and was released on her own recognizance.

Langford pleaded not guilty on Nov. 21, 2018.

The former teacher was convicted by a jury in April of 2018 on three counts of sexual battery and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, the Dayton Daily News reported.

Upon her release, Judge Timothy O’Connell ordered Langford to register as a Tier III sex offender, meaning she must register her address with the local sheriff’s office every 90 days and cannot live within 1,000 feet of a school or a daycare.

She was also ordered to serve five years of probation and surrender her Ohio teaching license, the Dayton Daily News reported.

Langford’s sentence was more severe than most Montgomery County cases because her victim was only 14 years old when she sexually abused him.

His parents told the judge that their son has suffered since the incident with Langford, the Dayton Daily News reported.

“Before this incident my son was confident, strong-willed, driven, a good student, a good athlete,” the victim’s father told the judge. “Now he’s ostracized by his entire community of Miamisburg, the staff of Miamisburg public schools, other students, parents and friends. He feels embarrassed and alone… he feels alone and helpless.”

“He knows he did the right thing by telling on Langford because other kids his age – her students – also had issues” with Langford, his father said. “…. His reward for doing this is being labeled for the rest of his life as the kid who had sex with his teacher. … girls think it’s gross and want nothing to do with him. He’s now introverted, uncomfortable to talk to other people. They know who he is.”

The judge said “mental injuries suffered by the victim” was a “serious factor” when he decided to give Langford prison time, the Dayton Daily News reported.

A substitute teacher from the same county was sentenced to just probation in April of 2019 despite having had multiple juvenile victims.

However, Montgomery County Assistant Prosecutor Michele Henne said the victims in the case of former Fairmont High School substitute teacher Madeline Marx were 16 and 17 years old and Marx was 23.

Henne said that 16 year olds in Ohio can consent to sex with adults, but that the student-teacher relationship between Marx and her victim was what made it a crime in that state, the Dayton Daily News reported.

That boy sure was a loud mouth, I think it would be impossible to rape a 14 year old boy.

He was a willing participant and more than once. He probably got mad at her and told. Fourteen years old in this day and age? He knew exactly what he was doing.
