Pittsburgh, PA – Former National Football League quarterback Terrelle Pryor was stabbed in the shoulder and chest by his girlfriend and was taken to the hospital at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
His condition is listed as critical.
The woman was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault and Pryor was charged with simple assault, according to ESPN.
Shalaya Briston, 24, stabbed Pryor at his apartment according to ESPN.
TMZ reported that Briston and Pryor, who had been dating for about a year, got into an argument while out to dinner.
Then Briston and her friends went to a club and Pryor went home. When Briston and her friends got back to Pryor’s apartment, the former NFL player was waiting for them in the hallway and he was angry.
A friend of Briston’s said that Pryor knocked her to the ground and then started a physical fight with Briston. That friend said Pryor and Briston “locked up” and “began to tussle,” according to TMZ.
The couple was fighting and went back into the apartment and into the kitchen and then the friend said she saw Pryor clutching his chest and bleeding, according to TMZ.
TMZ said according to a police report, a police officer said that the female witness had voice texted and stated, “She was just defending herself and had to do it.” That witness added, "The only reason I'm here was to make sure that he didn't die … we should have just let him die."
Pryor last played in the NFL in 2018. He played seven seasons in the league and made $14.1 million.
During his career, he was primarily a backup quarterback and wide receiver. His best season was 2016 when he played wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns and caught 77 passes for 1,007 yards.
Pryor was the star quarterback at Ohio State where he played from 2008 to 2010.
