Elementary Students Kneel While Singing Anthem At MLB Game

Elementary students kneeled in protest while singing at the Major League Baseball game.

Seattle, WA – Two young female elementary school students took a knee in protest while singing the national anthem at a major league baseball game on Sunday.

Tacoma News Tribune sportswriter Ryan Clark posted a photo of the two elementary school students taking a knee on Twitter. The game Sunday was between the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians.

A choir from Seattle’s Mount View Elementary School performed “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

A spokesman for Seattle’s Highline Public Schools told Huffington Post that the anti-police protest was an “individual act by the students.”

“Obviously, the school district respects the First Amendment rights of our students,” Spokeswoman Catherine Carbone Rogers told Huffington Post.

Major League Baseball has been spared most of the protests that have damaged the popularity of the National Football League.

Last year, Oakland A’s catcher Bruce Maxwell was the only baseball player to take a knee. Maxwell kneeled for the national anthem in September.

Maxwell was arrested in October and was indicted on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct in Scottsdale, according to KNTV-TV.

Maxwell is considering a plea deal to avoid trial. He is accused of pointing a gun at a female food delivery driver who was bringing food to his residence on Oct. 28.

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the protests in the pre-season of 2016.

Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers after the 2016 season and sat out the 2017 NFL season when no teams signed him.

Kaepernick’s teammate Eric Reid was a vocal supporter of the anthem protests. Reid didn't sign with the 49ers and also became a free agent.

Reid told ESPN that he doesn’t plan to protest the anthem any further. He also posted on Twitter that he thinks he was still unsigned by any team because of his protests, according to Sports Illustrated.

Okay, but Kap wasn't taking a knee at funerals.

Further, for those that say he's disrespecting veterans, a far worse disrespect is you also not being upset that there are homeless veterans walking the streets all over America.. If you were really that concerned with vets, you'd be doing more in your power to ensure they are fully welcomed back to the fold of society.

I haven't met any veterans, anywhere, that would say kneeling during the Anthem or the presentation of Colors is respectful and I have no idea how that relates to whatever the kneelers are protesting.

Do you see how the other two guys had opinions worth responding to, and we exchanged dialogue?

Try that next time.

Nice try at a save, but no! Not buying it. They are not respecting veterans by kneeling! No veteran I know sees it that way.

Any grunt will tell you better die fighting than dying on your knees.
My father was in ww2 uncles and all stood straight and at attention during national anthem.

Well you don't have to buy anything, because it's true. Nate Boyer doesn't support the protest, but he supports Kap's right to protest and that he respects the veterans by kneeling.

Kap about Boyer:" We were talking to him about how can we get the message back on track and not take away from the military, not take away from pride in our country but keep the focus on what the issues really are," Kaepernick said after the game. "As we talked about it, we came up with taking a knee because there are issues that still need to be addressed and there was also a way to show more respect for the men and women that fight for this country."

Now you're starting to get it! You said you didn't see what the kneel had to do with the flag.

It hasn't and never had anything at all to do with the flag. You're absolutely right.

JBo

You miss my point. What ever the protesters are protesting, whether it's police violence, BLM, no justice, no peace, no verdicts the protesters want, whatever it is...what does it have to do with the Anthem or the flag? If the protesters are angry with the police...protest at a police station. If they're unhappy with a verdict, protest at a courthouse. If I get a parking ticket, I don't protest by kneeling during the Anthem or the flag. In my opinion and in every vet's opinion that I know, kneeling is a sign of disrespect to the flag and the country and particularly to vets. I fought for the flag and bled for the flag. My Dad fought and bled for the flag, spent a year in Walter Reed and was 100% disabled because of that wound. To me, it's about respect. Anyone certainly has the right to kneel or lie down, or ignore the flag...but people died to give them that right. Maybe I'm from a different era or generation or just maybe prehistoric, God knows I'm certainly old enough but it matters deeply to me.

Young communists. They don't call it the Left Coast for nothing. BTW there is a huge statue of the Communist dictator and mass murderer, Lenin, in Seattle.

@JBo
Again, great and thank you for your service. I served, my younger brother is currently serving, and both parents, an aunt, a cousin and 2 grandfathers served.

Not all of them like the protest, but they respect the right to protest.

Further, you and others complain no matter where the protest is, so to the protesters it really doesn't matter what you think about their location of protesting.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@DieselDawg
And there are statues of enemies of the United States dotted all over the country that people protest when they seek being taken down.

What's your point?

Heezels
Heezels

Lol whataboutery again. We get it. you served, fought for their rights to protest. Blah, blah, blah.

On the flip side you also fought for the right of those people to complain. And your right to complain.

Also, Maybe his point is that there are people justifiably outraged and protesting the statues of confederates. But there seems to be little attention brought to the fact that communist figurehead Lenin is parked somewhere in Seattle. That could be the point.

Friend, you've got to be more observant than to just reply to my comments without the proper context. @JBo started with his family that served, and i replied.

Next, I can assure you @DieselDawg only sees Lenin as an enemy, and not the Confederates that went to war against America.

Please, follow along.

@DieselDawg, put down your spit bottle for a second and answer this honestly; what are your feelings on Confederate statues?

Heezels
Heezels

I don’t appreciate your condescending tone, keep your cool. No need to get your panties in a bunch, friend.

And I have read your comments. I’m seeing that your purposefully trying to turn it into a teaching moment about the first amendment. I don’t think you’re carefully considering the position of the person you’re talking to. Please, follow along.

Also, even if dieseldawg happened to be a pro confederate racist, he’s still not wrong in asserting that it is pretty damn weird for a statue of Lenin to be sitting pretty in an American city, and that no one is protesting or talking about that.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@Heezels it's definitely a first amendment issue when the leader of the executive branch of government stated that players should get fired for protesting. that's textbook.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@Heezels @DieselDawg I just checked on the Lenin Statue. Both the democratic mayor and republicans have been vocal about its removal, and a confederate statue. but they're both privately owned, so they come down when the owner wants them to, or if someone buys it off him.

First, are they wearing Micky Mouse hats? Kids that young don't have these types of feelings for anything. It's obvious the parents put them up to this, the kids probably just want to get back to their smart phones or video games. "But dad, do I have to do this"

Hope they're both sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison. The positive end is, as speculated here if it's true the victim is getting better.

Well, if one person came up with this idea it must be okay...lol. Moron. I'm curious why you would support Kaepernick. This is a guy who was seen wearing a shirt of Fidel Castro, a person who imprisoned his own people for speaking out against the Cuban government. Sounds like you didn't think this through, did you sparky? The two children kneeling in this story are too young and immature to even fully know or understand the reasons why they doing it. It's more a case of "monkey see, monkey do".

LEO0301

@Hi_estComnDenomn also, stats don't support Kaeprnicks contention of unbridled police killings of black men. In fact, it proves otherwise. Yet you sheep follow along blindly. Keep up the good work, putz.

No need to insult anyone. From my experience Hi_estComnDenomn is just a troll, so there is no reason to stoop to his level. It is obvious though that these poor kids were coached to do this, and that is even more pathetic than the cause that they were supposedly supporting.

You are the epitomy of a troll. You insult people who provide better arguements than you, and even if they haven't said anything wrong to you, you resort to name calling like a ten year old. After all you have said, I would definitely agree that you are an ass, and you're showing it every time you post your nonsense. It's still amusing to me to respond to you though just to show how wrong you really are.

So surprising. A person who has been proven wrong multiple times doesn't like the person calling them out. I noticed that you haven't replied to the four other comments where I did that. Also, I never said everyone, just half. Yet again you defeat your own argument with your own words. No one even needs to say anything for you to trip on your own feet, or fingers, as it were.

As far as I can see only two or three people like you or get along with you on this site. The rest end up making a fool of you. Which is very easy. You tried that line before and no one replied that they either liked you or got along with you.

As I said, there isn't a reason to stoop to their level. Just share your arguements like you're allowed but don't enocourage them by acting like they are.
