Earl Kimrey Arrested For Disappearance Of Mariah Woods

Police believe 3-year-old Mariah Woods is deceased, and have arrested Earl Kimrey.

Jacksonville, NC – Authorities arrested a man in the disappearance of 3-year-old Mariah Woods late Friday, but continue to search for the little girl, police said.

Investigators believe Mariah is deceased, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said in a Saturday morning press release.

Earl Kimrey, 32, has been charged with concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second degree burglary, felony larceny, and possession of stolen property.

Kimrey is the live-in-boyfriend of Kristy Woods, who is Mariah’s mother.

The warrant for Kimrey says he obstructed justice by "removing Mariah Woods' body from the scene of her death and did conceal Mariah Woods' death and body, knowing that Mariah Woods died from unnatural causes. The defendant acted with deceit and intent to fraud."

Kristy reported her daughter missing at 6 a.m. Monday morning.

She told investigators she put Mariah to bed on Sunday night, and that she last saw the little girl at 11 p.m. when she checked on her, Fox News reported.

Kimrey said he spoke to Mariah when she woke up around midnight, and that he told the child to go back to bed. Authorities said he was the last person to see her.

Two other children, Kristy’s five and ten-year-old sons, were also in the home when Mariah disappeared.

Family members said there was no sign of forced entry or evidence of a struggle at the house, CBS News reported.

Law enforcement officers, firefighters and Marines were joined by over 700 volunteers in a massive search effort that covered “hundreds of acres,” WRAL reported.

More than 225 state and federal investigators have been working on the case, officials told WTVD. They have conducted nearly 100 interviews and followed up on over 140 leads.

“Our team has sorted through 95,000 pounds of trash by hand looking for anything that could offer information to us to help find Mariah," said FBI supervisor Stanley Meador told WITN.

Searchers have walked countless miles, and also used horses, boats, drones, and divers with underwater sonar in efforts to locate the missing toddler.

“Due to evidence gathered during the course of the investigation, it is believed that Mariah is deceased,” the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said early Saturday. “At this time, the location of Mariah is unknown. The searches will now shift to a recovery process.”

On Tuesday, Mariah’s biological father, Alex Woods, told WTCI that Kristy had not allowed him to see his daughter for a year before her disappearance, despite a custody agreement he claims gave him weekend visitation.

Alex is also the biological father of Kristy’s two sons.

He said he first heard about his daughter’s disappearance in a radio alert, and that he doesn’t understand how Mariah could have been abducted from the home without anyone noticing.

"Somebody just, walked right up in there, grabbed the three-year-old out the bed - she didn't cry, she didn't scream. Nobody heard nothing?" he questioned.

Alex told WTCI he believed Kristy and Kimrey had “something to do with it.”

According to WTCI, Kimrey’s criminal history dates back to 2005, when he was convicted of larceny. His jail sentence was suspended, and he was placed on probation.

He received a similar sentence following convictions for assault or threatening of a government official and being drunk and disorderly in 2012.

In 2015, Kimrey was again convicted of larceny, and received another term of probation with a suspended jail sentence.

Kimrey is being held at the Onslow County jail on $1,010,000 bond. Authorities said on Saturday that additional charges may be filed as investigation continues.

It was not hard to connect the dots. People always jump to stranger abduction but the truth is that is fairly rare. The suspects should go in range....Live in boyfriend, oldest brother, mother then stranger. Older brother could be ruled out quickly due to age/known behaviors. Live in boyfriend is of course the #1 suspect. He is a non-relative, there is always the potential for molestation (1 in 5 used to be the stat, now more like 1 in 3 children are molested) He was the last one to see her. It was doubtful she wandered off, due to her orthopedic issue, and most 3 year olds don't leave the house at night. MOM should be in jail right along side him. Harsh but maybe these women need to do a little background check on their men before they shack up with them! His rap sheet was appalling! WHY was he getting repeated slaps on the wrist?? Bio dad should get a lawyer, go for custody of his two sons, and sue the State for letting that guy out over and over and not giving him any min. consequence for his repeated law breaking and if this guy did turn out to murder that child...mom should get a charge for neglect! women ...STOP BRINGING THESE LOSERS IN WHERE THEY CAN HURT YOUR CHILDREN!!!!

When are the laws going to change regarding the mother's part in these crimes against their own children? These "mothers" bring these men they hardly know, into their homes and expose their children to these criminals. These "mothers" are so hard up for a man's attention, they turn a blind to the way these men treat their children. Some of these women don't care......as long as they have a man around. These mothers need to be charged in these crimes against their children.
