Virginia Beach, VA - A Virginia Beach Police officer was shot Tuesday morning and the suspect has barricaded himself inside of a home.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 AM when a Virginia Beach police officer was attempting to serve a search warrant in a home at the 1600 block of Ohio Ave. The suspect shot the officer and then barricaded himself inside.

WTKR Reporter Rachael Cardin arrived on scene at around 7 AM and tweeted:

"Shooting investigation near west lane, Ohio Ave and Michigan street. Shots heard when we got on scene"

The officer who was shot has been hospitalized and is expected to recover. A second officer has been transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

This incident occurred just a day after another officer was shot in Hampton, Virginia while responding to a robbery at a Gamestop. That officer's ballistic vest was able to stop the bullet.

Officers have the area closed off and are attempting to talk the suspect down.

Police are asking everybody to avoid the area if possible and to stay inside.
