Delivery Driver Paralyzed After Being Shot For Parking In Handicap Spot

A 65-year-old man shot a delivery truck driver who parked in a handicap spot after the two had scuffled

St. Charles, MO – A 65-year-old man who had a disabled placard on his car shot a 21-year-old Amazon delivery truck driver parked in a handicapped spot.

The incident happened at about noon Tuesday and the 21-year-old victim is in critical but stable condition and the 65-year-old man was arrested at the scene, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The dispute began when the Amazon driver illegally parked his delivery van in a handicap spot.

The 21-year-old driver was talking to another Amazon driver at the time, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The 65-year-old man confronted both drivers about being parked in a handicap spot, according to St. Charles Police Lieutenant Tom Wilkison. Even though the 65-year-old man had a handicap parking placard, it was unclear whether he was handicapped, Lt. Wilkison said.

The older man pulled out a cell phone so he could record the illegally parked delivery van. Then the two began to struggle over the phone, Lt. Wilkison said.

During the argument, the two men were involved in a “hands-on” confrontation, according to police.

The 65-year-old man fell to the ground during the struggle. He then took out a handgun and shot the 21-year-old one time in the back while the younger man was walking away, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The gunman then went to a shoe store where he was arrested and police recovered a gun.

Amazon said in a statement that the 21-year-old driver didn’t work directly for Amazon but worked for a contracted company.

“This is a terrible incident and our thoughts are with the driver,” Amazon said in a statement, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “We will work with law enforcement and the delivery service partner as they investigate."

Police didn’t release the names of the victim or the suspect.

Altho shooting him was a bit over the top, hard to feel sorry for the jackass punk who was obviously not even working, rather chit chatting w/another non worker on the company dime. Too bad the older guy didn’t have a chance to shoot him while facing him. Could have used ‘self defense’.& probably gotten away with it. Hope he gets great representation.

This is a sore subject for a lot of people. I personally have seen non-handicapped people park in handicapped spots. In my area it is a constant problem because the law simply is not enforced. The only time it gets enforced is when a handicapped person raises hell over it but then it goes right back to the same old thing. However, on the flip side of the coin is people with handicapped stickers on the vehicle they are driving who are not handicapped but using a family members sticker though the handicapped person is not even with them. Like the above story, I have seen delivery driver using handicapped parking. Shooting someone over that is "WAY" over the top yet if the laws were enforced by a very stiff fine perhaps something like this would never have happened.

Cops don’t have time to deal with handicap parking violations, especially since half the people using placards arnt handicapped. They are way busy dealing with idiots who shoot people in the back for no reason. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Wè #1. And for people to agree the delivery driver should die or be paralysed, you people are just plain sick #2. And #3, if the last were enforced this wouldn't have happened in the first place. Man, are people mean-spirited and hateful a lot lately!
