Benner Township, Pennsylvania - Oscar Hernandez was taken into custody Friday after a pursuit which stemmed from a murder and kidnapping. Hernandez has now been identified as a previously deported violent felon.
According to Fox News, at around 2:45 AM on Friday, police officers responded to the home of Nadia Gonzalez, where they found her fatally stabbed. Another woman in the home had also been repeatedly stabbed, and Gonzalez's daughter, Aylin Sofia Hernandez, was taken by the suspect.
Police initiated an AMBER alert for Aylin with a description of the suspect vehicle. Pennsylvania State Police located the vehicle on I-99 and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit.
The suspect's vehicle finally crashed and the suspect, Oscar Hernandez, was taken into custody. Aylin was in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries from the collision. Two state troopers were also injured.
Oscar Hernandez was identified as Aylin's father, who was a deported felon. Hernandez had a history of threatening and assaulting ICE agents. There was an active detainer issued for Hernandez, which is exactly the sort of detainer that many jails now refuse to hold people on.
Hernandez is being held in Pennsylvania until he can be extradited back to Connecticut.
