Chicago PD Releases Video Which Shows 'Unarmed Black Man' Draw Gun On Cops

Chicago PD has released the bodycam footage showing the shooting of Harith Augustus.

Chicago, IL - Chicago PD has released bodycam video on Sunday of the fatal officer-involved shooting of Harith Augustus (below.)

The shooting happened in the area of 71st St and Chappel Ave at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Chicago PD Chief of Patrol Fred Waller said Saturday that officers were working foot patrol when they spotted Augustus, who appeared to be carrying a firearm.

The officers confronted the suspect, who then became combative. As the suspect fought with officers, he flailed away from them.

The newly-released video clearly shows that Augustus had a pistol and magazines holstered on his belt.

As Augustus broke free from officers, video shows him drawing his gun as an officer responds by fatally shooting him.

Officers recovered the semi-automatic pistol and loaded magazines from the suspect.

Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced Sunday that Augustus had a Firearm Owners Identification card, but not a concealed carry permit.

Supt. Johnson added that the officer who fatally shot Augustus is a male officer, contradicting "witness" reports of a white female officer being the shooter.

Almost immediately following the shooting on Saturday, a large crowd of protesters formed and started threatening to shoot the police.

The crowd spread the story about how a barber named "Snoop" was unarmed and shot in the back as he was walking home from work.

The crowd also created a second narrative where people claimed that Snoop was armed, but they said he had a concealed carry permit.

The crowd started jumping on police cars and clashing with officers.

Many in the crowd threatened police officers, saying that they better not be around come nighttime.

At around sunset, people in the crowd started to throw glass bottles, rocks, and bottles of urine at officers. Chief Waller said three to four officers were injured in the attacks.

Officers responded by ordering the protesters back and taking down troublemakers and people who refused to listen.

One person was arrested and charged with three felonies, and three more were detained and released.

You can see multiple videos from Chicago Sun-Times reported Nader Issa below:

As of the time of this writing, another protest is still scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday, despite video showing Augustus being killed while trying to murder police officers.

What were his priors? And, what do people know about his character?

Could they let him run? Could they just let him go? He wasn't doing anything wrong EXCEPT carrying a firearm ILLEGALLY. But did they know? Bottom line is just conform to the law. I got pulled over few weeks ago, gave the trooper my license and conceal carry permit. He asked if I had a weapon. My answer was yes in my passenger seat. He didn't ask to see it, told me to stay put, went to his car to run my license then came back and ask me to slow down. Never was my weapon in question. The police are good by far. The people who are bad cause conflict with cops and community. I respect them. I feel safe even when (and I always do) have a weapon in my possession when confronted by a law officer. Thanks BLUE GUYS for what you do.

Police deaths have steadily declined since the 1970's. I would have expected the numbers to rise a bit the past few years, but they have remained stable. Which means 2 things.

Not only is the media over covering people of color being killed by police, but they are also pushing coverage of officers killed in the line of duty, especially if it can be related to civil unrest. If you talk to the public, they believe bpolice are killing minorities at an ever increasing rate. And if you talk to police, they believe officers are being killed at a higher rate. The only real effect they are having on statistics right now is public perception.

Sorry Lolamae, I voted for mr obama and he did nothing for our community of color for which he could have been our greatest ambassador! Police officers being killed in the line of duty tripled during his presidency and his disloyalty to all of us and to those who serve us directly and indirectly caused the Major decline in Police respect and law & order? Check the statistics before calling or saying someone is a liar as that is what causes dissension among the citizenry! Please understand that I Know there are Bad Cops out there But the % is extremely low compared to those who are honest, caring, put their lives on the line and truly want to clean up our city a our community for those of us who live here!!

  1. BLM may have stepped out of the protesting game for the large part but to deny that they are the root of the modern protesting movement would be short-sighted. Whether or not that group is involved they stoked the fire and "BLM" will forever be associated with this type of behavior (which is why they stopped doing this I assume). So the term BLM is now used generically, like the term "Kleenex" to refer to all tissue. It's just the way it is. They might do well to change their group name!

  2. Obama has EVERYTHING to do with this! From the way his DOJ approached policing and police officers to his own actions or inactions regarding same, he spread a clear anti-cop rhetoric. The reason police death fell during his presidency (if accurate) would have more to do with the previous adminstration. Things like societal attitude shift takes significant time to occur. We are seeing the major effects of his presidency, as related to this issue, continuing to evolve (or more correctly devolve).

@lolamae

  1. BLM has nothing to do with this
  2. Obama has nothing to do with this. In fact, police death dropped steadily during his presidency.
  3. Quit lying.

I guess officers should just let a perp shoot them, but dare not shoot back because of the ignorant BLM who think cops should be killed and criminals should be able to rob assault kill etc. What a messed up world it has become thanks to the last administrations attitude towards cops. Yes it is Obama and his throwing out the attitude that got this in a much worse way.
