Chicago Mayor Violates Stay Home Order For Haircut Because She's A Public Figure
Chicago, IL – Mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot was caught appearing in photos that showed her getting a haircut in violation of the state’s stay-at-home order.
A woman posted photos on Facebook on Sunday and said she “had the pleasure of giving Mayor Lightfoot a hair trim,” according to WGN.
In the photo, the two women are not standing six feet apart and they are not wearing masks.
At a Monday press conference, the mayor addressed questions about her hair cut.
“I'm in the public every day and candidly, my hair was not looking the way it did," she said. "I thought I would do it myself but I thought it would be a disaster. So I got a haircut.”
Lightfoot said she got her hair cut because she is a public figure, according to WGN.
"I'm the public face of this city," Lightfoot said, according to WGN. "I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye. I’m a person who takes their personal hygiene very seriously."
The person who cut her hair did wear gloves and a mask, according to Lightfoot.
Beauty and hair salons are closed along with many other businesses during the stay-at-home order.
Lightfoot has been outspoken about enforcing the stay-at-home order and said that she will do whatever it takes to ensure citizens don’t violate the state’s stay-at-home order and spread the coronavirus, WGN reported.
“ … if we see gatherings, we will shut them down, period,” Lightfoot said, according to WMAQ. “Folks, this situation is deadly serious. And we have to take it seriously, all of us, and we need you to take it seriously.”
WMAQ reported Lightfoot added: “… but make no mistake, if people don't take this in a serious way in which they must, I'm not going to hesitate to pull every lever at my disposal to force compliance if necessary.”
