Houston, TX - A carjacking turned deadly in Houston when two men shot and killed a father in front of his child because the man's car had a manual transmission.
Pedro Aguilar was returning from dinner with his wife and 10-year-old daughter around 11 PM on Saturday. He pulled up to the Greenbriar Park North apartments on Richcrest Drive and dropped his wife and daughter off at the door, then went to park the car.
As he was pulling through the parking lot, two men pulled up alongside of him in an attempt to carjack his vehicle. They pulled him out of the car and pistol whipped him, reports say. According to ABC 13 they then became frustrated when they were not able to get the car in drive because of the manual transmission so they beat Aguilar and shot him in the chest in front of his family.
"The suspects were unable to drive Mr. Aguilar's car because it's a standard shift," said Sgt. Beall, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "They fled the scene on foot." Information is being sought on their identity.
47-year-old Pedro Aguilar died at the scene.
Aguilar's family describe him as a hardworking mechanic. "The best person, my inspiration, my everything," said his son, Kevin Aguilar. "He always was happy. He [would] say, 'I want the best for you.' 'It's difficult."
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Aguilar family during this unthinkable tragedy. We'll hunt down these killers and bring them to justice.
