Memphis, TN – Two suspected thieves stole a car from a mother whose 1-year-old child just had a heart transplant.
When the mother of the ailing child went to pick up her car at the scene, she wasn’t alone.
The mother of one of the alleged thieves was also there and chastised her son.
Thompson said her son was inside the stolen blue Ford Fiesta that crashed into a curb while fleeing police, according to WMC. One other person was involved in the car wreck.
“Don’t you know a car is dangerous,” Thompson said. “Anything could have happened to him whoever was driving or whoever they hit, anything could have happened,” Thompson told WMC.
The stolen car had scratches and dents and its hubcaps were missing.
“They did a little damage to the car, they didn’t do much, but I’m just glad they got the car back,” said Chelsea Harrell, the owner of the stolen car.
Harrell needs the car to transport her child to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for check-ups, according to WMC.
Harrell was lucky in that no check-ups were scheduled while her car was stolen.
The baby’s car seat had been placed in the trunk along with toys the mother had for her child. The hospital parking sticker was removed, however.
The car was reported stolen on Thursday and was spotted in East Memphis a couple times, according to Harrell. She said she left a spare key in the car.
The two alleged car thieves are in jail and Thompson said that wasn’t the first time her son was in trouble with police.
“Quit being so hard headed out here,” Thompson said.
