Two Georgetown police officers were shot while responding to a burglary call late Tuesday night.

Georgetown, TX – Two Georgetown police officers were shot responding to a burglary late on Tuesday night.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at about 11:19 p.m. on Feb. 25 about a possible burglary in the 700-block of Garden Meadow Drive near Interstate Highway 35, KHOU reported.

The first police officer to respond arrived on the scene one minute after the emergency call was made, KXAN reported.

He “immediately started taking gunfire” from the suspect and a gun battle ensued.

“He was coming around the house. He started taking fire from the subject who was probably 60 to 80 feet away in a kind of darkened area,” the Georgetown Police Department said in an early morning press conference on Wednesday.

The officer was shot in both legs, according to KHOU.

A second officer arrived and the gunman opened fire on her as she got out of her police vehicle.

“As the second officer approached from the opposite direction, she saw the exchange of gunfire going on. She exited her vehicle. The subject then turned on her – started shooting rounds toward her. She returned fire. She was shot in the foot. And the subject is deceased,” the Georgetown police spokesman told reporters.

Both of the wounded officers were transported to Seton Williamson Hospital, KXAN reported.

Georgetown police said both officers were in stable condition at the hospital.

The gunman was identified by police and his family has been notified, but officials have not yet released his name, KXAN reported.

They also have not released the names of the wounded officers but said both officers had been with the Georgetown Police Department for less than five years.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers Division were on the scene assisting Georgetown police, KXAN reported.

Investigators from the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene.

WTF?!? A 16yo called 911 with a fake burglary call to lure officers out to his home while he laid in wait in the dark and started shooting at them when they arrived. The 16yo is dead!
