BREAKING: Two Deputies Shot By Gunman

Two Rice County deputies were shot near the Sonic in Sterling.

Sterling, Kan. - Two Rice County Sheriff's deputies were shot by a suspect Monday evening.

Details about what led up to the shooting have not yet been released, but the two deputies were shot near the Sonic at around 5:30 p.m., according to KAKE.

After the shooting, the gunman fled the area and is believed to be at large.

No details about the identity of the suspect have been released at this time, but law enforcement sources say that they are familiar with the gunman, according to Katie Johnston with KWCH. Multiple agencies are responding to the area to aid in the manhunt.

The two deputies were transported to two separate hospitals, and their conditions have not been released.

UPDATE: The two wounded law enforcement officers have been identified as the sheriff and undersheriff. The sheriff was shot in the leg and the undersheriff was shot in the neck. The suspect is believed to be barricaded in a home which police have surrounded.
